Hi all,

Just got my first SLK, lovely 2005 SLK280 with only 31,000 on the clock:smile:
Hoping to get a little more sunshine to keep the roof down for just a little longer here in North West England. Manchester is not known as an area with a high risk of sunburn, rising damp is the usual problem here!

Looking for some inspiration, especially on improving the audio, basic type(audio20?) to something more modern.
Also looking for opinions on the SmartTop add on, are there other units that do the same job, or do they have the market cornered?

Thanks for sharing your experience and insights,

Mike

Welcome from Madrid ...

Regarding the radio , you have the chinese s-100, s-150, s-160 options , there are a couple of yhreads on here regarding them if you want to keep the OEM look , or the usual Pioneer , Alpine units etc. I have a Parrot Asteroid Smart and I'm very happy with the screen/bluetooth/sound etc quality.

The smarttop is a great mod, which alsmost everybody loves . The mods4cars model has the most options , but if you're just looking for the basic operations at quite a saving then have a look at the model from Cabrio-module.de from Rheinhold engineering which works fine ( you can find them on eBay for about £125 ) .

Hi Mike, and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us! :)

Some great R171 info, including Owner’s/Maintenance/COMAND manuals, etc.:
Bill's Den: Documents

Don’t forget to lube those seals:
Spring is here~Gummi Pflege! Lube your seals/Lithium grease your joints/hinges

Download your car’s brochure:

Mods you should think about doing to your SLK:
• SmartTop: http://www.slkworld.com/general-discussion/121481-what-smarttop-all-members-keep-talking-about.html
Note: As Craige (curro101) has already mentioned, there are alternatives with limited functionality.
Check my signature block for where I bought my SmartTop from in the UK, and also how I managed to get 5% discount from them!
• Shorty antenna
• LED license plate bulbs & parking lights
• Chrome indicator bulbs (still flash orange, but removes the ‘fried egg’ look from your headlight housings)
• OEM windscreen or Lighted/etched windscreen

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
• Post your VIN (or VIN of a car you're looking at) in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on the car).
FREE!! How to get a free data card!
• If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
• If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
• Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If iPhone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as iPhone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
• Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any individual’s post that you like. This saves you having to comment.
• New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link in the info bar towards the top of the screen is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
• Also vote or enter our Ride of the Month competition: ROTM Submissions & Voting - Mercedes Benz SLK Forum

Thank you

Welcome.... from the sunny south...... (all relative I suppose.... sunnyish)

I swapped my basic audio for the Dynavin N6, straight plug and play swap. OEM look, better sound plus sat nav and Bluetooth...

I have the module from cabrio-module.de. As mentioned doesn't have as many features as smart top, but had the ones I wanted (one touch open/close while moving from switch and remote operation from key) and is a bit cheaper.
