Hi all ,

I am just about to take delivery of a 2005 SLK 350 , planned for Sunday .
I am totally new to Mercedes , never had one before .
I am about to trade in my Audi A3 8p 3.2 V6 Quattro sport , love the A3 but while out shopping for a 'sensible' motor saw the SLK peeking from between two people carriers and fell instantly in love :le

So just waiting for Sunday to roll round .
Must admit I am rather nervous , never had an automatic either , I had a little test drive but you can't really get a proper feel for a car with the salesman sat next to you and the seat badly adjusted , enough to know what a real car feels like though .

My wife and I only laid eyes on the SLK on Tuesday , we signed up the same day , finished the paperwork this evening , I have never bought anything without doing months of research first , here's hoping I haven't made a big mistake .

Cheers .

Mike .

Welcome to the Forum - I'm on my first Merc too, since March and I'm loving it. Also really enjoying the 5-speed auto box, having come from a long line manuals before. I for one have no regrets except one: why didn't i do this years ago?

Hi Mike and welcome from sunny France...

Last year, we shopped around for ages, but could not find a car we both liked... by chance, visited a friend who had an SLK (lhd of course).... we both fell in love with that car and bought one over the web in the UK (I prefer RHD) ....

It was a whirlwind purchase and we are thrilled with it...automatic gearbox is not difficult to get used to... just take your time...

I have had to read the manual several times to get to grips with all the gizmos .... and the forum is a great source of help and information...

Nothing left to say but ENJOY YOURSELVES...:smile::smile:

- As it is second hand you may take time to get used to the gearbox and for the gearbox to get used to your driving style. The automatic claims that it learns a driving style and imitates that in it's gear changes so if the person who owned it before you had a radically different driving style you may have some 'interesting' gear choices coming from the box - especially on big hills !

here's hoping I haven't made a big mistake .

No you'll love it !

Hi Mike, welcome from Washington, DC.

I'm new to MB too with the SLK and mine was somewhat of a impulse buy as well. I've had sticks for years but I have to say, having an automatic is refreshing and I'm certain the auto is faster than if I were shifting.

Overall I'm thoroughly satisfied with the SLK and would say it is among the best cars I've owned, if not the best. I'm very happy with the mix of comfort, performance and convenience and I love the fact you don't see SLKs on every corner.

I hope you and your wife are as happy with your SLK as I am with mine.
