Hello there,

Thought i would introduce myself to you all know i have registered.

Based in Edinburgh (and sometimes in St Andrews), i have had my SLK320 for 4 years. It has about 70k on the clock and has been a good friend although a few issues starting to creep in. Has made me think about getting an R171 but watch this space on that one.

Current issues which need sorting are all familiar issues from my forum searches and unfortunate consequences of living in Scotland!:

  • Water logged (and burnt smell) PSE central locking pump. This actually shorted out and caused bttery drain so have taken it out of the car.
  • Rust on wheel arches and under boot lock.
  • Blower has stopped working which i think is because of being wet and full of debris.

Great to see such a community for SLKs and so many proud owners. Will participate where i can!

James

Welcome from the Sacramento Valley SLK Enthusiasts!
A very warm welcome from another Edinburgh member!
Welcome James from Wirral, England.

Drainhole cleaning is a major must do on the R170's.

When they block the runoff gets into heaters and pse pump, as you've already spotted.

If you park under trees it's even more so.
Hi from Aberdeen. My slk350 so far has had no issues. Touch wood. Roy.
Hi James, welcome from Barrhead, Scotland.
Thank you for kind welcome and happy new year to you all.

Great to see many of you in UK too. Not much top down action with the recent weather!

Job for today is to take out the fan blower and see if i can troubleshoot the problem. From what i read it could be the voltage regulator or even the fan might be blocked. Must get this sorted as not great for clearing the screen! Hot air coming through still so just about hanging in there.
Well it has been a productive first day of the year.

I took my blower fan apart, cleaned up the debris and put it back together and it works. There is a slight squeak so i need to use a few drips of oil on the spindle.

Also i have ordered a new PSE central locking pump. I wish i could just get the rust sorted a quickly and cheaply now! It might be the turning piint to get me onto an R171. Watch this space
Hi James, and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)
Received the PSE Central Locking pump I ordered from Allparts this morning, fitted in 5 minutes and verified working. Cleared the drain hole and wrapped the pump in a plastic bag, so I hope no reoccurence of this one.

Couldn't have solved that issue as quickly, cheaply and efficiently if it wasn't for the forum.

That just leaves me with some rust to sort. I have decided though to get myself an R171 so keeping my eye out for the right car!
