Hi!

My name is Jim, and I just joined the forum. I don't have an SLK yet, but I'm in the market for a roadster. I also happen to be 6'8", so am a bit limited in which cars I fit in. I've tried the Z4, Boxster, SL, C5 Corvette, Infiniti G37, but by far, the R-171 SLK is the most comfortable of those for me to drive. I can comfortably fit without the seat back all the way, and I can even wear a hat with the roof up! The only car I still want to try is the Audi TT, but I find it hard to believe I'll find more room in a roadster than i have in the SLK.

So, I'll be looking for a car to purchase in the relatively near future, and am looking forward to showing it off here! Any information on how to be an informed purchaser of a used SLK would be greatly appreciated. I'll be looking for a later model R171, probably from 2008-2010, preferably with under 5K miles.

Best,

Jim in Boulder CO

Hi Jim, and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us! :)

I get out to Colorado occasionally on business (Broomfield), and I love the town of Boulder!... good luck with the search for your perfect R171! :tu:

Some great R171 info, including Owner’s/Maintenance/COMAND manuals, etc.:

Download a brochure:

When you get it, here are some mods you should think about doing to it (if they haven't already been done):
• SmartTop: http://www.slkworld.com/general-discussion/121481-what-smarttop-all-members-keep-talking-about.html
• Clear or tinted side markers
• LED license plate bulbs & parking lights
• Chrome indicator bulbs (still flash orange, but removes the ‘fried egg’ look from your headlight housings)
• OEM windscreen or Lighted/etched windscreen

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
• Post your VIN (or VIN of a car you're looking at) in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on the car).
FREE!! How to get a free data card!
• If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
• If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
• Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If iPhone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as iPhone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
• Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any individual’s post that you like. This saves you having to comment.
• New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link in the info bar towards the top of the screen is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

6 ft 8 in is pretty tall, try a SLK 55 on for size.

Welcome from Washington, DC and another Jim!

The SLK is by far the most comfortable and satisfying car I have ever owned. I hope you end up in a SLK and find the right one soon. Be sure to let us know how it goes and post pictures.

Thanks! I work for a federal agency based in Gaithersburg, so I get out your way fairly regularly. If you see a nice example in the 2009-10 MY, let me know.
