Hi All at SLK world, having never had a fast car before, (but bikes for the last 40 years), i bought my slk in January. Although it's over a ton heavier, and a lot wider than my bike, It's still FANTASTIC. But it is a steep learning curve. We went to Cornwall in Febuary, and averaged 28 miles per gallon !!! Is this normal !! I was expecting, about 16-22. Having done over 1000 miles already, i'm a lot more relaxed with it now. The most difficult thing, is parking. I get out to find the rear is 6 feet from the curb/wall, or the front is over the curb. Fortunately, i haven't scraped the underneath, but noticed previous scrape marks ! I fix aeroplanes as a job, and have always fixed my bikes myself as well, but have limited experience on cars. Hopefully i won't have to many problems ! And look forward to talking to some of you.
Regards
To Jeff in Florida,
And all at SLK world
Robbie.

Looks really good Jeff. Mods are limited for the next 2 years though, as i'm paying off the loan for the car. As i am now aware of the problem, i stop short, get out and take a look if need be. i have parking sensors fitted, the rear ones are not brilliant when it's wet but work ok. and it's only in the supermarket car park, where i'm trying to park in the box, that i have a problem. We don't have those horrible concrete sleepers in the car parks, like you do in the states, so it's not so much of a problem. Just a marked out white box. The front ones don't work at all. the're not Mercedes fitted, but aftermarket ones.
There are a few other things though, that are a high priority. having read threads on comand updates, for the nav system, i was wondering how to find out which revision date i currently have. I intend to have a Mercedes (minimum) service in the summer, to keep the "full Mercedes" service history, would do the comand update myself if necessary (about £160 for the disc from one of the recommended web sites). But if it wasn't much more from Mercedes would consider letting them do it. But i would still like to check before, and after to confirm that it had been done ! Also, i am not sure about the maintenance schedule. I have read various things in different places, and they don't all seem to agree. I have my owners manuals which gives details, but doesn't seem completely comprehensive. I have also seen a 'C' class owners manual, which covers the slk, which seemed to differ slightly from mine. And i've tried to delve into the genuine mercedes workshop manual, that i got off ebay. Which is difficult to navigate, but it seems all there if you know where to look. I think i came across the roof seal lubrication, that was done on a service, but knowing how maintenance outfits work, again, i would like to check myself. Not sure if i should have started a new thread for each question ! But thought i'd mention it while i remembered. Regards, Robbie.

comand updates different than nav updates per se (map updates)

Daimler AG - Service & Parts net

nav map updates you must go through a mb dealer or you are getting a bootleg copy which might hose your head unit/nav unit
