Hi Everyone,

Proud owner of a 2001 230, love driving it despite the poor summer in the UK.

Anyone got any idea why my central locking locks/unlocks when driving especially on sharp corners or bumpy surfaces - any advice/help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

I can't help with your central locking issue, but I'm sure that someone with more R170 maintenance experience will be along shortly to offer some useful advice...

Welcome from Atlanta, GA.

The PSE in R170's is a bit of a mystery to me, so I can't offer much practical advice based on experience. (That never seems to stop me though :)

I'm totally guessing: the wiring harness in the trunk - the portion that flexes as the trunk lid is opened - the wires often fray. This might cause intermittent grounding and the PSE to think you're unlocking the trunk. Peel back the sheathing and examine the wires by sight and by feel.

Thanks for the welcomes guys. Yeah, I think it's some that comes from the boot/trunk, I'm due to get it checked out soon so hopefully it'll be sorted apart from that she's perfect!

Hi Tipper Top, I think I have read somewhere in the owners handbook that there is a sensor that unlocks the central locking if the car is involved in an accident or driven on rough roads, page 32.

A safety feature that appears to be working.

And welcome from South Yorkshire.

Regards Stuart.
