Hi all.

I have a SLK230 and need some help with it. I have already solved one major problem just by reading threads here as a 'guest' - but I now have another problem, and I need to post about it. So I have duly registered, and will post in the thread I was reading earlier.

Thanks for all the help I have already had from here - just by reading threads. Here's hoping you can help with my next problem - and beyond !!!

Hi and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us! :)

Don’t forget to lube those seals:
Mods you should think about doing to your SLK:
Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
  • Post your VIN (or VIN of a car you're looking at) in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on the car).
FREE!! How to get a free data card!
  • If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
  • If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
  • Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If iPhone/iPad pics, you can only attach 1 pic per post this way as iOS names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
  • Want to 'like' or 'thank' someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any individual’s post that you like. This saves you having to comment.
  • New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link in the info bar towards the top of the screen is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

Hi guys,

Many thanks for all your welcome messages. I've updated my profile now, to show that I have a 1999 model SLK230. No pictures to post, as it is not looking very good right now. Needs a coupla dings on the bonnet sorted out, and rust along the wing edges & seams. I managed to get the K40 relay board re-soldered, which cured the intermittent starting problem.

Next I want to get the interior courtesy light working again, and I have read that the PSE unit in the boot (trunk) may be the problem. It doesn't seem to have suffered from water inside the module, but the electrical connectors are looking a bit 'green' & corroded. Anywayz, I removed the module to take indoors to check & clean the PCB. Locked the car doors manually with the blade key in the driver's door - then shut the boot lid (which locked automatically, it seems.)

When I went to open the boot to clean the female connectors and then replace the PSE module, the key doesn't seem to go all the way in, and of course it doesn't turn. I've tried WD40, but no go. The car drives OK., so I thought "No problemo" - I'll just partially lower the roof, so that the boot lid opens 'backwards,' and then I'll replace the PSE from there. HOWEVER - I left the luggage partition cover retracted, didn't I ? So I can hear the pump working, but the roof won't move !

The stage I have got to now is that I was reading a thread here where one member reckoned that there's a wire under the bonnet which will 'kid' the PSE into thinking that the luggage partition switch (S69/10) is closed, if I can find the correct wire and then short it to the chassis. I now need to revisit that thread - and probably use the search here to find out some more about this 'fabled' magic wire !

If any of youse guys can steer me closer, I'd be obliged.

One day - when I've got this fixed and got the bonnet and wings sorted - I'll overcome my shyness and post up a coupla pics !!!

Cheers,

Bill.
