Following Sundays unfortunate incident where a Jeep Cherokee came out of a side street and hit the front of my 230 I have been looking around for a replacement.

Late this afternoon one popped up on eBay. In a frantic rush to beat all comers on eBay ( the ipad kept popping up '8 people per hour are viewing this vehicle' ) with all the pre Easter weekend traffic parked on the M25 I managed to get to the car lot before they closed at 18:00.

I prodded and poked, crawled around under the car and checked around the engine bay. Took it for a blast around the local area. Iv'e been driving a SLK 230 for 5 year and the V6 320 really get's up and goes!!

Net result - I am the owner of a 2002 Slk 320 miles in Black/Leather ( heated ) wood trim with tiptronic 'box and 70000 miles on the clock and completely rust free wings. I even managed to talk them down to £2250 ( Yes £2250! ) delivery on a transporter tomorrow morning for an additional £125.

The interior is dusty and there is a lot of crud like paper etc in the footwells and behind the seats but the carpets are in good condition so I'm sure a professional valet will make all the difference. ahhhh ... the electric seats don't work. Must go and look up diagnostic approach!

Got to transfer my smartTop module, the tyres and possibly the rims, bonnet and boot gas struts and the projector headlights across so ........ can't wait for tomorrow!

I'll pop in the VIN when the car arrives tomorrow. Not on the section of the papers that I have at the moment.

Hmm. My wife said something similar ( about the car ... about the car :) :) )

She is not impressed that I have 2 slk's at the same time!

Some muttering about 'Boy's and their toys' :biglaugh:

The M112.E32 is a great engine. Great torque output. If it wasn't because of R171 is so attractive, I wouldn't of traded my Crossfire in.

I think the R170 was/is a classic but the 171 just didn't do it for me.

The new R172 is stunning though! I got to play with one at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2 years back. The smile lasted for days!

Pics ....

There is a bit of frost on the car it's -2 out this morning!

Jobs done.

Swapped out gas lift struts
Swapped petrol caps and oil caps
Fixed electric seats
Pirated old toolkit to complete the new one
Swapped out first aid packs and triangles

Jobs to do.

Get rims refurbished.
Swap out halo projector lights and upgrade to HID's
Install roof control unit ( removed from old car )
Swap out cherished number registration ( or sell 'L6 JNR' )

Drain and replace engine oil, gearbox oil filters and coolant.

Investigate non operative courtesy lights ( must look at boot light )

Lubricate all the hinges and pivots ... they seem dry.

Touch up that damned interior anthracite paint - the big letdown on all SLK interiors

Full valet and leather treatment

Great looking car. Do the UK versions not have corner marker lights in the front bumper?
Nope, indicators and parks in the headlight cluster

Just heard from the insurers, they are going to repair my car! Couple of weeks and I'll have a 1999 230 on the market!
