I pulled the trigger on a 2003 metallic silver 230 with manual 6 speed. I really like it! But I do have a punch list of problems.

I have a intermittent electrical problem that is weird. I suspect there is a harness plug connection somewhere that is responsible. Some of the problems are ; the radio powers up but the speakers come on and go off ...some times when I shift. The windows won't go up and down sometimes. All the dash trouble lights come on ; BAS ESP ABS FSS. The air bag deactivated light is on and the cruise control won't work. Next time out, everything works perfect with no trouble lights.

I have a left brake light out that I'm getting ready to tackle as well as check out the K40. I also have some rattles here and there that need sorted.

I've have pursued the forums and have done searches with "problem" as a key word but haven't had a hit on this massive BCM problem. Hopefully the controller is ok.

Welcome from NE England. Congratulations on your new SLK.

To be fair, searching for 'Problems' won't get you very far - SLKs tend to be fairly problem free, so you need to be much more specific on your search criteria.

Woolly, as usual, is right. To use search effectively put in the actual piece of gear that's giving you fits. eg speakers and filter it to the 170 and DIY threads perhaps.

By the sounds of it, from a great distance, a lot of your problems sound ground/earth related. Lose or cracked ground wire perhaps?

OK. I check out the relay module and the solder was bad. Not to the fail point I've seen in other posts. After re-solder, putting the module back in and going through radio coding and resets I noticed the radio cutting out when I revved the engine. I checked the voltage and it was around 17.5. I shut the engine off to contemplate. Mean while, I removed the brake light lamp. The lamp holder was melted from poor contact. cleaned it up and re installed. First success but surely not a not permanent fix. And, to add to the list. The AC is not blowing cold. I have connected my dvm to the cigarette light socket to verify the over voltage problem. When I started it up it is reading 14.3. That's where I'm at for today. Oh, did get garage door programmed.

Just a quick update. I haven't had the chance to drive my unit very much. But, I have not experienced any of the fore mentioned electrical problems :bannana:. I am thinking that a hard core power washing performed before I took delivery may be the culprit? I changed the oil today for piece of mind. I bought a vacuum type oil change can from Tractor Supply and oil, filter, oil filter cap wrench from O'rielley's. My oil change set me back a Benjie. Ordered a replacement grill off Fleabay. And finally, I'm on the list for a clear TBL..... third brake light. :hb:

Me again. Electrical problem resurfaced. The alternator is putting out too much voltage causing all the systems to go wonky. I have pulled the alternator and have ordered a replacement. It won't be here until next week. The alternator is a fairly new re-manufactured unit as it is. It looks like one phase is has been getting hot. I also removed the battery and tray. There has been a previous boil over on the battery. Lots of the green powder to clean up. Can someone tell me where the hose in the picture is suppose to connect. Is it a drain for the original battery arrangement?
