I’m near 1,000 miles on the new SLK 55, so looking forward to enjoying that RPM range above 4,500!

I’ve also been giving a lot of thought to oil changes and I thought I’d share my preliminary conclusions with you, and would appreciate your comments.

I’ve ordered my SLK with the “AMG Handling Package”. Part of this package is a posi-trac differential that requires an oil change at 2,000 miles. I purchased the pre-paid maintenance package so the oil change is covered under that package. I think I’ll go ahead and change the engine oil (at home) at about the 2,000 and 5,000 mile mark. I plan to follow suggestions from several and will use a vacuum pump to remove the oil. I bought a filter from the dealership for about $21.00. Since that purchase, I’ve found the identical filter online for about $11.00 plus shipping at this online store: http://www.eaceuroparts.com/parts/part_number/278%20180%2000%2009/3
I’ve concluded that Mobil 1 (10w-30) will be my oil of choice and will pay the extra amount for the dealership to use Mobile 1 at 10,000 miles when my pre-paid maintenance package covers the oil change (if that is required as I’ve read in some posts).

So in summary, I’ll do my own oil change at 2,000, 5,000, 15,000, and 25,000 miles. The dealership will do it at 10/20/and 30,000 miles.

I’d welcome any comments, but just can’t seem to get comfortable with 10,000 miles between oil changes!

Regards

Well, having had previous versions, how comfortable would you have been when the interval was 13000? It was on some earlier models. Old school, I used to change at 3k, then I went to 5k, because, like you, I was uncomfortable. Now I live with the car knowing better than me the condition and need for an oil change
