My SLK spring refit.
I decided to do some upgrades to my 2001 r170 SLK 2000 Kompressor

A) - Audio system
Installation of double din Kenwood DDX6053BT with GPS unit (I have this radio unit from my previous car).
- GPS box by Phantom with installed WinCE with Automapa software (Europe).
- Miracast adapter for smartphone would be connected to AV inputs of the radio unit. Idea came from Youtube"2014-2018 TOYOTA RAV4 Smartphone Mirroring System" but I used different adapters.
- music library would be stored on modified IPod classic (500Gb SSD mod)
Speaker exchange and upgrade:
-front JBL CS760c with separate tweeters (tweeters are installed in interior triangle mirror covers with supplied enclosures.
-rear speakers JBL CS762
-subwoofer JBL Club WS1200. Subwoofer enclosure would be placed in the trunk. Since this is shallow mount woofer I don't plan to remove spare wheel.
Amplifiers installation,
- front and rear speakers Isotec Isoamp5
- subwoofer Crunch 600.2 in bridged mode
B) - consoles
Central console was removed and modified for 2DIN placement. Bezel for unit was done from two old central consoles (split in half and glued together. Seat heating buttons, emergency and EPS buttons went down. This move required removal of ashtray and coin holder. Central console, both side doors consoles and vent were removed, sanded and are prepared for water graphics
C) - Wheels
Stock 15" rims would be replaced by 17'AMG type IV with 225/45 r17 tires
D) - seats
I would like to change seat covers into leather outer skirts in orange and internal parts black with alcantara, but this move is optional
Since I discovered some funny issues with door locking during this refit, PSE pump was removed, al contacts cleaned. After cleaning it would be installed upside down to prevent further water damage.
Work progress. As for now I have run power cable from engine bay to cabin and almost finished removing interior panels to have access for wiring etc.
The best way to route cable into cabin from engine bay is to use computer box located close to the battery, there is lot of space there.

Sounds like you've done a lot to the car. But where are the pics? It'd be interesting to see the center stack modifications and how the head unit installation looks.

Thanks for the tip on where to route the power cable into the cockpit. How large of a cable will fit?

Small update.
Seat covers - I go for all red.
Power cable diameter is like men's small finger approx 10-12mm with insulation.
One and half year ago I changed front and rear bumpers, headlights (angel eyes with mod for beam height adjustment) and rear lights (Led installed)

Looking very nice! Nice job! I have done the same 2din interior mod and i wanted to check out yours! When you finish it please give me an updated photo of your interior!

WIP update.
I run out of speaker cables, so when waiting for package, I started working in the trunk.
I made cardboard template for subwoofer placement, then prepared playwood insert for sub installation. Another step would be plexi bezel around speaker bassreflex and terminal. Some pictures from garage.

Michalki, how much higher than the trunk floor will the amp and bass drive sit? Or, to put it another way, how much height are you losing in the trunk?

Height of the sub and amplifier is one of my concenrns too. Sub with metal cover obove it is on the same height as rest of the trunk floor (part closer to the gas tank), amplifier extends 10mm more.
I am still thinking about amp position. Trunk location is just one of the ideas. Second thought is to locate it under the passenger seat. I think that it is the best solution because: power cable runs away from gas tank, it is much easier to route signal wires, the only wire I have to put into trunk is speaker one and I save same free space in the trunk. I guess I ve just convinced myself to this idea.

Saturday.
Finally I made trunk shelf for a subwoofer.
For all of you who think about doing it by yourself - go for it,
This is the first time ever when I ve tried it. Important step is to make template. I made two 6mm playwood shelfs, external with wider holes was covered with grey material (gluying was really easy, just use some clamps to keep it together for a while). internal shelf is supporting sub, basreflex and speaker terminal.
Cables arrived early morning, so now I am working on wires. Subwoofer amplifier would go under passenger seat.
Edit Sunday:
Subwoofer is installed and connected. I fliped over PSE pump and put it into plastic bag. All work in trunk is finished.
Now I am movin for cabin.

3 weeks passed. I made some progress. All interior plastics went for hydrodip. Because of some car show I have to wait until 14th of July for finished interior. Meanwhile I did all electric and speakers routing (in fact I did that three times until I was satisfied). I replaced Isotec Isoamp 5D with 4 channel Crunch 1000.4 amplifier for front and rear speakers. Finally amplifiers are connected and they work nicely. Car interior was repainted with original anthracite color. I spent a lot of time with amplifiers placement, they did not fit under seats so I moved them onto rear wall. Rear cover was darkened a with black spray to match colors.
Now I work on windshot. I have acryl one but it collides with seats. I decided to make smaller central one.
It is a bit dark in my garage so spmetimes pictures are not sharp.

I want to install push to start button, does anyone has ignition switch wiring diagram. Thanks in advance.

Regarding my request for ignition switch wiring, here is what I found out.
On youtube there is a film about mercedes ignition switch plug yrs up to 1998.
On mbworld site i found post with a bit different colors that actually match my SLK

Cable color (youtube) - Cable color (mbworld) - pin number - function

2 wires in Red - Red - 30 - 12v power
Red/yellow - Pink/green - 15X - Ignition switch in " Run and Start"
Red/black - Pink red - 15 - Run and start ignition#1
Green/white - Green/white - P30 - Ignition in "off and Accessory"
Red/green - Pink/yellow - 15R - Accessory Run and Start
Violet/white - Violet - 50 - Starter motor control

But this is just info from net, when I do some measurements with multimeter I confirm that.

SLK 170 Ignition switch wiring / push to start installation

I did measurements on ignition switch wiring

Wire colors - pin number in socket - function
2 wires in Red - pin 30 - 12v constant power
Pink/green - pin 15X - Ignition #2 (On 2)"
Pink/red - pin 15 - Ignition#1 (On 1)
Green/white - pin P30 - There is 12V in this wire until you turn key into Ignition 1 position after that there is 0V
Pink/yellow - pin 15R - ACC
Violet - pin 50 - Start engine

I have bought "Car Engine Lock Ignition Starter/Keyless Engine Push Start Button/RFID System" form Ebay. This device has 6 wires to connect to 12V, GND, On 2, ACC, Start and On 1. So now you know how to connect this think.
Another issue with this push to start is steering wheel locking. The key blade should be left in ignition switch and turned to ACC. Therefore there is constant power drain from battery. The best solution is cutting ACC wire and installation of simple rocker switch in case one would like to operate ignition switch as usually.
The last issue is transponder. I disconnected transponder coil from Siemens module located behind cluster panel, then I extended it's wire reconnected it and put this coil in box close to cigarette lighter. When you put key fob in it, it works as before.
I update post with some pictures as soon as I make them.

To be honest I have to say that I used some instructions from "Remote Start, Push Start and Keyless Entry Install Write Up / DIY" on Benzworld site in section of W163 M-Class

If you take the battery out and remove the tray underneath there are a couple of rubber bungs that allow you to put cables through from the outside to the inside of the car. I used this route to get power for my Genesis amp, mounted in the footwell.

Finally "Car Engine Lock Ignition Starter/Keyless Engine Push Start Button/RFID System" works perfectly.
How to bypass steering wheel lock.
I removed ignition switch lock cylinder. This move left ignition switch locked into ACC. As described above, I cut ACC wire (pink/yellow) and installed on/off switch. With this switch when I reinstall ignition switch lock cylinder I can operate car with key fob as usually.
I did not want to loose on security so I made key fob holder with transponder coil located in small compartment close to handbrake.
If you look for brake on wire it is black/white wire. Pictures from today’s work:

Almost finished.
Today I silenced doors and trunk, fixed some issues with subwoofer panel and put some acoustic foam into doors sidepanels.
Still to do:
1) wiring for navibox and smartphone mirroring
2) seats covers
3) Reinstallation of doors sidepanels
On wednesday I should get interior plastics with new carbon (water transfer)
I should finish by thursday.

Job Done - FINISHED

Summary of the changes.
What I did to my Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 Kompressor
Interior :
1) All parts with peeling paint were disassembled and repainted with original color (anthracite) paint.
2) Panels were removed, central dash console was transferred into 2DIN, all panels were covered with carbon hydrographics
3) Door’s side panels covered with carbon hydrographics
4) Seats got new red covers.
5) New carpets
6) PSE: cleaned and flipped over.
7) Push to start button installed.
Audio system:
1) New radio/GPS navigation unit double din Kenwood DDX6053BT with GPS box by Phantom
2) Miracast adapter for smartphone screen mirroring and OBD info display
3) IPod classic adapter.
4) Speakers, front JBL CS760c with separate tweeters, rear speakers JBL CS762, subwoofer JBL Club WS1200 (in the trunk)
5) Amplifiers, front and rear speakers Crunch 1000.4, subwoofer Crunch 600.2 in bridged mode
6) Doors and trunk were silenced with acoustic mats
Exterior:
1) Wheels: 17'AMG type IV with Bridgestone 225/45 r17 tires
2) Front grille was covered with carbon hydrographics
3) Both mirrors were covered with carbon hydrographics

On the pictures you can see the car as I bought it (silver dash panels and Panasonic radio), then I changed panels into carbon and installed Audio10 unit. Somewhere in between I changed front and rear bumpers, headlights, rear lights (led), replaced comfort console with black one from w208 (as far as I remember) and changed instrument cluster panel into black one. Than there are results of the current refit.

I just read your entire post and want to say a BIG "Congrats" ? Looks great and I can imagine sounds amazing. I just purchased my '02 SLK320 and immediately added a Kenwood HU. More more to do and, after seeing this, the bug is there ;-) Once again...Great Job ?
