I'm new to this forum but on my 2nd Mercedes now.

I have an SLK 230K
My roof operates to open or close at walking speed, if I go too fast I get an audible beep and the operation stops. I then have to press the brake and carry on, trying to not to go too quickly. I don't know the exact speed to stay below but I know its less than 10mph.

Here is a demo clip of me getting it right....youtube.com/watch?v=zukWQlR2tv4

Is there a sensor with a wire I could temp disable that would allow me to travel at any speed while I roof up or down? or would the mechanism just not work? To my knowledge no alterations or EasyRoof aplications are on the car.

Any thoughts or advice would be welcome.

Welcome from NE England. Congratulations on your new SLK.

If you fit a SmartTop to the car, you can operate the roof remotely, and at speeds of up to about 30mph.

Greetings from Tennessee !

I'm not an expert on the R170, but I didn't think that M-B allowed any roof operation when the car was moving. You may want to see if someone already installed a SmartTop or related (Cabrio, etc.) module in the car. The Smartop is easy - just go to mods4cars, and get the instructions. Just a key sequence on the steering wheel. If that's the case then you have a selector for up to 35 mph. Not sure about the others.

Welcome to the Forum.

A warm welcome from Southern Arizona. Good to have you on board. Took me a year before I installed my SmartTop (should have done it sooner). Enjoy the people, the forum, and top down cruisin'.

Welcome. It is like 5 mph or less for the top to work while moving going forward. Going in reverse do not think there is a speed limit for using the top. Kind of funny that MB build in a limit going forward but not one in reverse.

The top shuts down when the doors lock at about 10 mph. Not sure about reverse, I haven't tried that yet.

Oh, and welcome from the Tampa Bay area.
