Hi All,

I'm loving my first AMG experience, I have had a couple of 911's over the last 6 years and was lured away from Porsche by the V8 AMG noise! Loving the SLK 55 AMG so far, great noise, handling and build quality. Looking forward to the better weather to get the roof down....

Welcome from Bournemouth, saw you on the AMG private lounge also, enjoy the car
Congratulations and welcome from the South West, hope you don't mind smiling when driving
Welcome from Wiltshire. As Jeff would say, "black is best"! ;)
Hello and welcome

How would you compare the AMG to the 911.

Always hankered after a 911 (996 or 997) yet after buying the slk350 i am very impressed and think maybe a SLK55 maybe preferable over a 911

Welcome from North Hampshire (& Burnham) - Nice looking car :tu:
Hi, welcome from Barrhead, Scotland.
Hi K,

The 911 is indeed a great car, grip is immense, speed and handling are great. The SLK 55 AMG is also a great car, build quality is comparable and speed is very similar (to the Carrera S I had), just delivered in a different way. I haven't had a chance to fully test the handling on dry roads yet but I'm expecting it to be more fun than the 911.

Then of course, there is that wonderful V8 soundtrack to look forward to with the roof down!

You don't need 'better weather'. My roof is down every day unless it's raining. If it's been raining I just use a very soft squeegee to remove the water from the bits which get stowed (only when the car is clean, of course), crank up the heater, seats and airscarf - and I'm as happy as a pig in......

Yesterday it was 7c in the 'burbs according my thermometer, but balmy inside the SLK 'bubble'.

It does help being able to raise the rear quarters too - courtesy of Smarttop.

And it's not just me - my g/f generally urges me to drop the roof, unless she doesn't want her hair restyled.

I too went from a 911S to an SLK55. At the limits, the Porsche does handle better. However, the AMG has better acceleration in the straights and an amazing sound that the Porsches can't touch. 2005 Porsche and 2005 SLK55 have almost identical HP but the AMG has almost 100 more foot pounds of torque, thus the amazing acceleration.
