Before buying my 02 32, I read a lot about the fact that the AMG was not offered with an MTX.

I've been driving for nearly 40 years. I learned to drive in a "Super Beetle" w/ MTX. I've owned several other makes w/ manuals.

In my brief period of owning the 32, I can say I love the ATX. To me, it offers the best of both worlds. When I want to be lazy and cruise, auto all the way. But when I want to show off a bit, "-" then punch it. Not to mention I've learned how to almost mimic a manual with the combination of throttle input and + or -. Great fun.

My question to all you gurus out there is this. Is there any significant additional wear to the drive line by using the trans in this manner? I will sometimes use the trans to help me slow before a curve and then, naturally, punch it at the apex. It feels great, but, outside of a police package Charger, this is the first car I've had with the "manual" shifting mode ATX.

You've summed it up beautifully, ok, with one word - 'almost' The SLK (either 170, 1 or 2) is meant to be a fun/sports car. Why would you want to ape a saloon car by putting a 'slush box' in it :eek:

Well, I am with you Wolly, in theory. I just assumed the AMG boys know what they are doing. I am still looking for a 32, because I love that motor. Still worried about living with an auto tho. I drove a 350 a few weekends ago that had a manual. The throws were long and vague, and the car didn't really pull that great. So what is a guy to do?
