2018 mustang revved his engine passing me as I was getting into my car at WalMart parking lot. Just picked up 2 spray bottles of Turtle Wax Black Wax Spray Wax at $5 a bottle to replenish my supply.



So I know he works there and was parking to go to work
I pulled up in front of him and asked with my winning smile, "You want to race?'
He comes over and says I know I can beat y... then stops talking when he sees
the V8 AMG on the side fender.
'Oh, you have a V8?' He says 'I have about 468 hp.'
I say, 'I know what you got, but you don't know what I got'
But I will show it to you. So I pop the hood and show him the goods.
Of course, he was duly impressed as I still am. :D

Actually that stock 2018 Mustang is probably faster than your car Jeff. The auto will do the 1/4 in 11.8 seconds, they are pretty amazing! It is hard to believe how far the performance has come in such a short period of time.

I often think "why do I try to make my car fast? Why dont I just buy a fast mustang and call it good????"

Actually that stock 2018 Mustang is probably faster than your car Jeff. The auto will do the 1/4 in 11.8 seconds, they are pretty amazing! It is hard to believe how far the performance has come in such a short period of time.
You are saying my Supercharged, ecu tuned, headers equipped, lsd installed SLK 55 cannot do better than 468 hp of that stang? I have more HP just by the numbers than he does :D

That is exactly what I am saying. For one, the "numbers" are lying. Kleemann greatly exaggerates their numbers. Supposedly my car is making 596hp but can't trap over 120mph? That just doesn't add up. If my car was really making 596hp it should be pushing 130mph in the 1/4 mile. My car has more mods than yours and best case it would be a dead heat with a 2018 'stang. Realistically I would say my car is at about 480hp, a far cry from the claimed numbers. I think the car can get there, but it isn't now. The stock 355hp number on the SLK55 seems to be overrated too as most are under 280whp. There is no way a rwd car has 21% drivetrain loss with a lockup torque converter.

The M113 is a very old design and it was not very efficient. All of the computer modeling they have now is light years ahead of where it was back in the 90's when the M112 was designed and the M113 is based off of. I will be doing a lot of logging and digging in to this thing in the near future, so hopefully we can learn more then. I don't think the supercharger is pushing as much air as Kleemann says it is or there is a major restriction somewhere.

Well I bow to all of your knowledge
I know my sc is a new design that K was working on before they sent it to my installer.
In fact it was the last design change before stopping blowers for the M113

From Kleemann:

DK made some revisions to the blower unit and are waiting on the updated castings which will fit the new blower assembly. They outsource those castings so we’re just in a holding pattern. There are a lot of moving pieces in this one due to the updated blower. I don’t think I’d imply that there is an issue or anything like that….it’s just you’re one of the first guys getting the new setup.

Where was the race? You got on it for like a second, that clearly isn't a race. Not saying your car isn't quick and fun, but the new stangs are no joke. I played around with a previous generation on airport runway up to 150mph and I barely had him. Granted my top was down so the aerodynamics weren't the best :p. He did have at least some mods as the exhaust was not stock, but he was not forced induction. The new mustang is 1.2 seconds faster in the 1/4 than the last generation, which is a huge amount. The 2018 stang is putting out 427whp stock on 93 octane, that is impressive. I would never trade my SLK for one, but you have to respect them.

There are definitely some issues with the Kleemann numbers. Jbanks does supposedly have a new design, so maybe his supercharger is more efficient and/or has higher boost than some of our older ones. He doesn't want to dyno it though, so who knows :p



Speaking of which, have you dynoed yours yet? Our cars aren't new. It's hard to say what your car's hp is at if not - maybe it has some issue and is way down which is why it didn't win that race by more. Mine was just at 405whp the last time I dynoed, which was disappointing. That is probably in the 480bhp range that you are estimating yours at.

Mine had 13k miles on it when I bought it, but obviously it is older. There is a chance it has an issue, but it doesn't feel like it as the tune is very smooth. I heard the only reason they changed the S/C was because the original manufacturer stopped making them and they were actually more efficient. My gut feeling is they are off on the boost level. I am looking in to logging options (I have done a little with Torque Pro) to try and get some meaningful data and adding in twin wideband oxygen sensors. I have been to the track, but not the dyno. I didn't get a clean run in though as the trans likes to bounce of the rev limiter in 3rd and not shift to 4th sometimes. I have since started to manually shift from there on. I believe the best was [email protected] Lots of wheelspin on the line and the issue mentioned. With a clean run and better launch I think [email protected] would be tops. Put some DR's on and high 11's wouldn't be an issue. My old talon ran [email protected] with 360awhp on a stingy dyno, around 400whp on most dynos. That car is a bit lighter so I would think I am right around the 405whp you stated. That is still 125whp more than a stock car, but not all that much in the tuner world. There were a bunch of Audi RS3's running 10's there (4 cyl turbo street cars) and the Audi TT uses the same engine.

We shouldn’t depress the Sarge. We should be humoring him, our veterans deserve anything we can do to keep their spirits up. I for one, will be glad to keep reminding the Sarge that he will keep those young whippersnappers in their place. If he says his car is faster than that mustang, well, I believe him.
