Hi all,
My front tire developed a "bump" on the side wall and needs replacing, the rear ones are already down to about 3mm so soon will.

Now, I am looking at ContiSportContact 5 for all but I am a bit confused:

What is the difference between the MO (mercedes specs) version and the normal one? They do seem to have slightly different EU label card with the MO a B on wet breaking and the normal version rated A (although the rating on economy is reversed).

Currently have Conti 5 at the back and Michelin Pilot Sport front...but I am not an experienced driver and had the car only 2000miles so I am looking for suggestions.

I am in UK and for me WET safety, specially aquaplaning is key, the Contis seems to have excellent reviews on wet from all mags and I like to stick with good brands and OEMs...

Thoughts?

All tyres are now rated ABCDEFG for Economy and braking also noise in decibels The most expensive are not always the best rated. My Acellera rears at £85 are rated higher that Bridgestones at twice the price. Quite often your paying for the name. Go onto a few tyre sites and check the different makes and compare the ratings

We've had MO P7's on our SLK since new, but that's on 16" rims. They have been pretty good all round, good grip wet and dry. The fronts lasted 30k miles and the rears 18k and 15k miles and are at about 4-5mm at the moment. Will put another pair of rears on before the Euro trip in the summer, unless they get to 3mm first. I change them at 3mm as wet grip drops off quite quickly below that.

Presumably you have 18" rims (sport pack). I would recommend sticking to the same make front and rear, which is I think what you're planning to do. I would also stick to MO, but that's a personal thing. Definately consider P7's if you can get them in the sizes you need. Finally I dislike run-flat tyres; my only experiences of those have been on BMW's and they are awful in my opinion. Too harsh and prone to tramlining.

Hi All,
Any more thoughts on Mercedes approved versions of tiires versus normal version? Does an insurance care? why the difference in EU rating?

I agree with you, I do not know why there are differences in ratings to wheels that look exactly the same, neither have I found explanations on what areas of importance are certified under the MB MO certification....
