As some of you may know, Der Flieger has been looking for an SLK, well, he got one and is on his way back to Ottawa with his lovely wife, Mrs. Flieger. Gregg and his wife(yes, Mrs. Gregg) and I met them in Eastern IL and escorted them to Greencastle IN for a "diner" meal(honest, Der Flieger said they would like to eat at a diner) at The Monon Restaurant.
Here are some pics;

SLK's L to R; Galo's, Der Flieger's, Gregg's. This is on the I70 East Bound Exit 154 in Eastern IL...and yes, that IS Challenge getting rained on! I'm proud of you Gregg :tu::tu:

People L to R; the Der Flieger's, Galo(Mrs. Galo couldn't make this trip), the Gregg's

You figure it out ;)

Front; Der Flieger's addition to the SLKW family(Gregg's car has been seen many times on SLKW and I have posted pics of my SLK)

It was great getting to meet these truly nice, FUN fellow SLK owners (wives included :)). I hope many more meet-ups are to follow

Very nice :tu:

You guys plan to keep the fish-pole "whip" antennae? Y'all have SmarTops?

Thank you!
I'm in no real hurry to change the antennae...some day maybe.
ST... don't plan on that one either. They're just not on my "important things to do" list.

Mark - thank you for the pictures and captions....great job and great planning too!

Wifey and I had a marvelous time and although Challenge got rain wet for the first time (boooo), he was washed and detailed inside and outside that evening before being put to bed so "alls well that ends well."

It was thrilling to see 3 SLKs streaking along the highway....fellow motorists got to see SLK front and backsides (mostly backsides)....so I'm sure they were excited too! LEO's and State Troopers where were you?....sorry we missed you....not!

Best of all I enjoyed the opportunity to meet my friends from SLKWorld. John/Catherine, and Mark are fun, engaging, gracious people...just what I expected. Thanks for the lunch Mark and thanks for the flapjack juice John!

Would recommend that all of you on the site make some plans to meet up with your SLK buddys. As Mark so wisely said, "Its all about the people!"

No, the weather wasn't exactly bright :(, but the company was :tu:

On 1; I checked the VIN, just to be sure that was Challenge ;) :biglaugh:

My pleasure Gregg. I hope to get a pre-run of the "meet" route/roads done in the next couple of weeks; you're will be invited to join me(wifey and me).

Thanks to Mark/Galo for organizing things and to Gregg, Linda and Challenge for coming out to meet us! Cath (aka Mrs Flieger) landed in St Louis Friday morning; we spent a great, if somewhat wet, day in STL. That evening they had tornados and hail throughout the area. Fortunately we stayed at the downtown Hilton - no parking lot...but $20 well invested in the parking garage across the street!

On the way to the rendezvous we stopped at Cahokia mounds...very interesting.

After the "official" meet on the state line we went out for dinner with Mark and Mrs Galo (Melinda) and a close friend Tony. Great times. Agree with Mark...it's the people people! Let's get out there and meet...and make the "others" jealous...of not just our cars!

It was a pleasure, my friend. You and Mrs. Flieger, er, Cath, were fun to meet, and your stories caused my gut to ache from laughing. It was GREAT meeting ALL my new friends(M&M Gregg and M&M Flieger) and I hope we can get a good turn-out for the SLK Meet in Indiana, Saturday June 4th. Hopefully the weather will be a wee bit more top-downish :)

The best we could do was Lansing to Port Huron top down...will post a couple of fotos soon. Clearing both Customs was a breeze...other than being forced to cross the night before when I went to find the US Customs office! Midnight Express!

We didn't get rained on from Sarnia to Ottawa, but it certainly wasn't top down weather. Despite that we dropped the top for the run into my buddy's driveway (he owns a Cayman) just to see his face.
