I started car shopping a few months back as I figured it might be time for an upgrade. I love my SLK but at some point, a guy wants something different. I was looking at 171's but couldn't find the right car. For some reason, I started looking at CLKs and started to fall. I found a really nice low mile 09 that I've got a deal on. He's got to clear the lien but it seems legit and it should come together in a week.

I wont post my SLK until I pick up the CLK but if you guys know anyone looking for a inexpensive SLK that looks great and is fully functional, let me know. I'll make a more formal post at the time but it's an 03 Kompressor with 170K. I've done tons of general maintance (trans fluid, Diff, Coolant in the last year, drilled brakes and tires two years ago, replaced the Maf and power sear relay 3 years back). I'll post it for 3 grand when the time comes.

Don't know if you will stay on the forum, but I really appreciate the willingness to share your expertise on our forum! ?????
It's funny you mention that. Although the interwebs are nearly infinite, I find my self going to the same 8 pages all the time and I'm sure I'll be here from time to time. BTW, the car I'd really like is yours but it's getting hard to find a nice 32 and with 4 teenage drivers, it might not be the wisest choice.

Well, I picked up the 2009 CLK 350 a week ago in new york. I posted my slk yesterday here and on Craigslist and sold it in a day. I gotta admit, it was really tough watching it roll down the driveway for the last time. The CLK is really nice but I haven't bonded with it yet it that makes sense.

To add insult to injury, I notice the worlds nicest yellow amg is now for sale here at a good price.

Anyway, I'll continue to lurk I'm sure and try to help with any problems. Spring is just around the corner and it will be top down season soon. Cheers everyone.

CLK is still sporty right? and now you can go grocery shopping with your Mercedes. I never had a C class but I had a 98 E class and liked it fine, when Mercedes decided to merge the headlights with the high beams they lost me, I just couldn't make myself like the look. SLK is a good only car for a select few, at some point most people are going to want or need more cargo space or need to bring along more than one passenger but they are an awesome second, third forth or fifth vehicle for those nice days when they can be fully enjoyed for what they are. Good luck in your travels.

Jeepers, I put my 2012 350 on the block all over in December and not a single legit call yet! May wind up trading it in at a big loss. :(

Spotted a tasty looking SL coming down the road today...

SLK55's are hard to find here in Ireland at the moment. It's to do with the road tax I reckon.

I think I will be looking at a SLK300 (manual) for my next car, but only once I have run this one into the ground, she hasn't been out in the last week with the snow and ice (and salt on the roads) hoping to get her out at the weekend, driving a 2.5l TD Mazda 7 seater is not the same! :(

I looked up your car and ran some comps. There are a few similar ones on the market for 27 to 28. That's probably why you haven't got a call.

I hope you do visit us frequently!

The yellow 32 is one of a kind, immaculate condition at a fantastic price! I'd dig deep for the funds to buy it.>:D

I did too, and priced it about the same as SLKs with far fewer high-dollar options and in some cases higher mileage. None had the Dynamic Handing package or Distronic Plus.

At that price, might as well trade it in and save the sales tax saving ($1500) and hassle. They offered $24,500 trade-in, but I'm gonna work on that.

You might get a bit more on trade but I don't think they'll go more than 25K. As you know, you'd have to sell it outright for 27 to come out ahead. You do have a nicely optioned car but you're up against dealers. Dealers will get a premium for cars due (oddly enough) to a trust factor. Also, most of this stuff is certified like this one: https://www.mboflancaster.com/certified/Mercedes-Benz/2012-Mercedes-Benz-SLK+350-8de06fc30a0e0ae865c400f5112926aa.htm

I'm not trying to nit pick but I spent 8 years as the used car director for a 25 store dealer group. We made sure to recondition the cars to 'no excuses' level, describe them properly in the ads and price them correctly. We review pricing every week for every car (3,000 +) and make adjustments. Sometimes up but generally downward. With the internet, the used car market is one of the most efficient ever.

If you have a good relationship with your dealer, they might allow you to do a 'pass through'. Let's say you sell yours for 26K. You bring the buyer with you when you pick up your new car. The dealer gives you 26 and turns around and sells it to your buyer for the same. You get the tax advantage that way. NOt all dealers will do this and some will charge a fee.

Again, I'm just trying to educate. If you have a car on the market for 90 days and haven't got a call, it's almost always a pricing issue.

OK, I lowered the price. Now less than some with a sticker of $55,000-$60,000. Saw one at $65,000, highest besides mine. Mine was $71,000+. Add in low miles, all history, no salt, and it's a buy compared to others on AutoTrader. Top there was $33,900, was about the same miles, IIRC, but fewer options. I was already lower than that one. Buy mine, get a better car, and save $3,000. :)

Thanks for the advice. Oh - I got calls, but they wanted me to invest in a brass mine.
