Weekend Schedule of Events

Friday 4-25-14
Since this is a travel day-we will freeform it. I (Fastdawg1 (Bob)) will be arriving in the early afternoon for check in, I will be providing my cell phone numbers via pm to all in attendance. Don't forget Gregg is also co-leader for the event so contacting him is the same as contact me. Friday afternoon/evening as the early birds arrive I’m sure there will be socializing and happy hour free food and drinks/stories flowing!

Saturday 4-26-14 [approximate schedule]10am – noon
We’ll start to gather/have breakfast [this is freeform] around the parking lot and get ready for the ride ahead.

12pm sharp
We’ll start the drive and head to the Indianapolis speedway museum. This will last approximately an hour. When we’ve completed the tour we’ll head to the Ride Rally Point down to McCormick Creek State park and then to Route 43, this will be a leisurely drive down 43, we wish everyone to enjoy the ride and become familiar with the road. At the end of the southern route, we'll rally up again for a more spirited drive back up 43 for those who wish to participate. Those not wishing for the rally run, may make their way back to the hotel or restaurant as they feel best. It's better that way as we will all have seen the route going south bound. At the end of the run, we have dinner reservations at Alibi's starting at 6:45/7:00 PM, that should give us more than enough time to get back to the area. I delayed dinner for about an hour to give everyone time to get back to the restaurant and hotel area, so if they arrive back early they may have time to freshen up.

I think we will. October is over.. November and December [the holidays] are going to fly by. It's really not far fetched at all to plan something this early :)

If you have anything on the events you attended in FLA recently, I'd like to look them over. Maybe we can do something in conjunction with a local MB Dealer, sponsorship or something like that. It would be nice if we could get on the Indy speedway for a lap or another one in the area? I'll be thinking and scheming on this for a while.

I go down there every other weekend, so I can always alter the dates on my part, well, if by then I'm still with the same woman...

So I voted for the last option, always available.

One more thing to add.

From Indianapolis to Bloomington, then Indiana Route 43, and from Bloomington to Brown Co. State Park, Indiana Route 46, and inside of Brown Co. State Park, there are numerous routes that are very suitable for spirited driving, these are the roads that our SLK is designed for.

Route 43

Brown Co. State Park

But that pulls us out of the way, just a thought.

Gmon (Greg) is in…..probably Saturday night at the hotel ( friends in Indy). I voted for later in April since we can get some freakish snow in freakin Rochester in April and my baby don't do snow. I'm told the Brown county ride is quite nice from my friends in Indy, especially the ladies out for a day of crafting………. I'm looking forward to it!

This is part of the route that is used for the meets I've organized the last 5 years, 3 of which SLK's were invited...

Also, getting on IMS requires being in a car club or having a GM car. I tried to set-up drives and was unsuccessful due to those requirements. Good luck trying though.

Argh, I traded in the (manual transmission) SLK for a C63 this fall. Will I be shunned if I show up in the new wheels? Would be heading down from Chicagoland...and will definitely miss the view and wind in my hair.

Option #1 get a loaner from the dealership lol
Option #2 get very friendly with the locals that are going and hitch a ride
Option #3 get rid of that thing and get another slk..

Hard to resist right? ;) All you had to do was ask us, and we would have talked you out of it.

I would love to see other sports car members to join us too!

Any thoughts, anyone?
Sorry guys-this is just an SLK run. If there is one thing I've learned from the Florida folks, it's that we stick to the plan. If we were a general car club, that would be a different story.

I have officially sent out the first round of invites to 58 local and active Midwest slkworld members. Gregg has offered his assistance as well [booyeah!] and said he has local Indi MB club contact information. So upon his suggestion I asked him to reach out to them as well to pass the word along.

Cutter-your PM mailbox is full my friend.. you have to fix that ;)

We are moving and shaking..

meet up in Indy

I voted any weekend provided I have my car by then. (ordered metallic red, no delayed til end of 4th quarter)
Also FYI, I do allot of DE and Lapping day events, and Putnam Park is a nice 1.5 mile road course about half hour west of Indy along I 70. There are events there most weekends in April, sometimes cars, sometime motorcycles.
At some car events the sponsors let anyone take their vehicles on track at lunch time. They are usually limited to 55 mph because no safety workers or flaggers are on track at lunch and they don't require helmets, etc.

Don't know schedule for next year yet, but it might be a cheap way to get a lap on a track.
