We don't usually come across a 1986 Mercedes-Benz SL roadster that costs €300,000 (approx. $334,000), but this one was touched by AMG and is quite a bit different from your average SL-Class.

First of all, this is not your average 560SL, but one that has had its original engine swapped with a 6.0-liter V8 made by the nutters from AMG. In fact, it sports the same powerplant used by the facelifted 300E 6.0 (Hammer), among a host of other modifications.

Second of all, take this with a grain of salt, but it is believed that the car's original owner and the man who requested all the mods was none other than Michael Schumacher.

Apparently, only three versions of the model have ever been built, so this SL is not only unusual but very rare as well. We're still not sure it's worth all that moolah, but there is definitely the right buyer for it somewhere.

The ad mentions that none other than Pano Avramidis, a former AMG engineer and the founder of MKB-Power tuning, was in charge of extensively restoring the car. While the original 560SL 6.0 was delivered in navy blue and had beige leather, the restored version has a gorgeous blue leather interior, paired with blue wood trim inserts. Even the AMG wheels are partly blue, while the 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 under that long hood should be good for 385 hp.

A limited-slip differential has been installed at the rear to keep things in check, while the original steering wheel has been replaced with one borrowed from a Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG (W210), including its airbag.

Unlike a regular SL R107, this version was also fitted with a custom rear bench seat, where you could probably store two very lucky children under 12 or so. It is not known if the extra seating was added at Schumacher's request or not, but it is probable.

Either way, if it comes with the right paperwork and Schumi was indeed a previous owner, this SL is definitely a collector's piece now, apart from a very cool and very rare 1980s tuner car.

I need this car!
The only thing they could have done better is to swap in 32 valve head version of this engine! It's a wonder why they didn't?

I had this same engine in an w126 SEC (16 valve 6.0). I suspect the hp figure is between 320-360 rather than the 385 quoted in the article.
