Hello - new to the group - just picked up an '05 SLK 350 a week ago and am looking for any suggestions for service departments in the Metro NY/NJ area. MB of Manhattan would be most convenient, but I haven't seen any discussions of service quality there (apologies if I've missed a thread). Any experiences/suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks!

Hello rjm16. Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new SLK.

I used to live in central NJ and had several good service experiences at Ray Catena in Edison. They have a relatively new service department with a nice waiting area. It had free breakfast/lunch/snacks, internet access, miniature golf, a pool table, etc. They could pick you up and drop you off at the train station and I heard they also pick up/drop off customers as far away as Manhattan and Brooklyn. They also did a good job with the actual repairs. I sound like I'm promoting them, but I just had a decent experience there.

Good luck :tu:

Benzel-Busch Englewood, NJ

Had my slk350 in for Service D over the weekend and was pleased with the service. No issues, but thoughtful and friendly service advisor (which is not always the case in this area) and free loaner provided.

I have been using Ray Catena of Union rt 22. Been there two times and excellent service and waiting areas. My 14 yr old son loves to come with me... "that should say a lot"

Breakfast, lunch drinks good service friendly, pool table, internet, tv ,games, pinball and list goes on...

Just wanted to add my 2 cents about MB of White Plains on Bank Street.
Purchased the 55 there and had a Tranny serice at 3989.
Shifting profiles were all wrong, and the Transmission needed software updates.
There was also a Tire Pressure Monitor Failure that required the replacement of the module, and that was done. I have the smartop mod and didn't disable it, I have the custom installed laser jammers, they didn't say Boo about me going into the fuse box or other areas we routed wiring. The are a great place to buy and service a vehicle... of course YMMV.

Went to Ray Catena in edison for the first time. Friendly staff, courteous and great waiting area. Had my power steering seals replaced and going there again soon for another work. However, i feel they have a lot of room for improvement. I'm comparing them with Acura dealers because thats the other car i own and something i could benchmark with (in short i've had better service experience with Acura Dealers)

Here's where Ray Catena lacked:
1) Lack of communication on the timing of the repair.
I wasn't told how long the repair would take even tho i knew it wasn't a big job. Plus i saw my car standing at one of their service station for 45mins with no one attending, until i reached out.

2) No courtesy call from service to let me know if my car was ready.
After 2 hours of wait for a 30min job, i decided to have my wife pick me up and run some errands. I told them i'm stepping out and that i would be back later. Anyway, 2 hours later i didn't get a call from them so i decided to call to check if the car was ready...and it was. With Acura (located in Princeton), they call you back letting you know if your car is ready. Plus, they give you upfront expectation as to how long the repair would take (if any).

3) No loaner car if you didn't buy the car from them.
I haven't had that problem with any acura dealer. It doesn't matter if you bought the car elsewhere, they'll loan you if you keep the car overnight (even if its oil change and you want to keep the car overnight).

4) Lack of communication/coordination between the person who takes your appoitment over the phone and the service advisor. (PM me for more info on that).

Anyhow, the people working there were great and friendly. Few minor improvements and i think they'll be up to par with Acura :p

P.S This is my first MB and my expectations were higher. But i feel if they just keep up with the Japanese dealers....i'd be happy then too. :)
