Mercedes me – Remote Online services On-board use of the remote and location services, e.g. geographic vehicle monitoring, vehicle location, remote door locking and unlocking, remote interrogation of vehicle status. Remote Online subscription services are limited to three years from initial registration, and can be extended at additional cost.

Unfortunately it looks like a head unit swap, and an antenna on the boot lid. If you have the boot antenna you might be able to enable it in software, but I doubt it.

I was looking at something not yet available in the UK but released on the continent that may do similar.

Just had a quick 'google' but can't find it now.

Basically it plugs into the OB scanner connection and links your phone to the car with access to all of your apps.

If you used a second phone just for the car and 'find my car' or 'tracker' apps and some remote features.

No idea on price but it should come here eventually.

(I was originally researching the phone shuttle when I found it)

You don't appear to get all the features in the retrofit though. The factory fit unit looks to be built in to the head unit and has full remote access to the car at all times, even with the ignition off, that may be why it has an external antenna.

I'm not sure how comfortable I am with remote unlocking and logging everything about my vehicle and journeys in the cloud. But then, I'm well known for being paranoid!

I spoke to MB uk today. They said it’s likely to be available by September. He did say that some new vehicles models may not need the retro fit kit as the vehicle may have the necessary hardware/ components. It would just be a case of paying for the option and the technician activating it. I guess I'm going to have to wait and see if my car is preloaded.

It's great for MB that users will provide them with all information for free ;-)

The following data are transmitted to the systems of Daimler AG: Vehicle identification number, odometer reading, tank fill level, remaining range, workshop and service code, ignition status, version number of control unit, where applicable. The transmission of the data is required to provide you or your co-users with the current vehicle status and be able to make you fitting maintenance offers. Daimler AG does not create movement profiles based on the transmitted data. Position data (if available) are only transmitted if you call customer support in the case of an accident or breakdown. Personal data such as the list of trips or refueling stops are stored solely on your smartphone and are not transmitted to the Daimler systems.

So it could be easier to find out if someone shaved odomoter reading.

I'm on paranoid side with you. I already wonder what my Audi is sending to VAG behind my back.
