This year, Daimler’s Maybach brand revealed a limited edition model based on the Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet.

It was named Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet, and only 300 of them will be executed. The car is an opulent four-seater convertible that has not been matched by any model that has been made by the German corporation in many years.

The only exceptions to this statement came as Laundalet models offered by Maybach, but those are long gone, and their production was extremely low when compared to this model.

Mercedes-Benz is probably excited to sell a 300.000-euro convertible without having to develop a new platform, which is why rumors have emerged regarding a coupe body for the same car.

There is no official word regarding a Mercedes-Maybach S650 Coupe so far, but the Cabriolet model has undoubtedly sparked up curiosity within this division’s fan base, which includes enough wealthy people that might want to buy one.

Evidently, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet is not just a rebadged version of the Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet, because it comes with an entirely redesigned interior. Customers can also order materials that are exclusive to this range, which is something that its competitors at Rolls-Royce are already doing with the Dawn, the closest production equivalent of the Maybach S650 Cabriolet.

Mercedes-Benz’s parent company has long wanted to fight Rolls-Royce and Bentley with its Maybach range, but its still does not have an exclusive coupe to compete with the products of the two British luxury brands. The introduction of an S650 Coupe in the Mercedes-Maybach range seems to be an obvious choice if you consider the ambitions of the German corporation.

A production version of the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Coupe might be revealed in late 2017, if not early 2018. If that body style proves as successful as the Coupe when it comes to attracting new clients to the high-end brand, one should not be surprised to see a Mercedes-Maybach S650 Sedan, if the current Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is not enough for some individuals.
