Mercedes and Ferrari's stranglehold on rule-making risks "destroying" Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone says.

F1's commercial boss said Mercedes and Ferrari were blocking changes he wants to make the sport more competitive.

"We're trying to save the sport and these people are trying to save it for their own good," Ecclestone said.

He added that Ferrari had written a legal letter saying governing body the FIA did not have the right to grant Ecclestone a "mandate" to make changes.

Sure it can.

Remind me, who appointed JT? And who did JT manage before the new job?

I've loved F1 all the way from watching my first race on the tv, in black and white, with my dad.

Since the 80's Ferrari has had a death grip on rule changes and challenges.

The only change is that MB has joined them from time to time.

What amazes me is that marques like Honda have never had the same weight.

HRC is a force to be reckoned with at any level of motorsport, except F1.
Despite having produced successful engines.

Ecclestone not going to be very popular with Nico Rosberg who is very much respected. Too many changes. Every year something new, I can't keep up. Mind you they could make drivers cars easier to identify with the driver.
