A thinly camouflaged prototype of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet has been spied undergoing testing in Sindelfingen, Germany.
According to the latest gossip , the open-top S-Class will receive its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September so it shouldn't come as a surprise this near-production prototype had only a bit of disguise on it. The front end was completely exposed and only the rear half of the car carried some thin plastic camo while the rear end was hiding the taillights which appear to have a lot in common with those of the S-Class Coupe upon which the Cabriolet will be based.
Also from its fixed roof sibling it will carry over most of the interior cabin, but with additional buttons for controlling the soft top while the AIRCAP (air deflector) and AIRSCARF (neck-level heating) systems will also be part of the package.
The engine lineup will be carried over from the S-Class Coupe, all the way up to the V8 5.5-liter with 585 PS (430 kW) & 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) in the S63 AMG Cabriolet and the V12 6.0-liter with 630 PS (463 kW) & 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) in the range-topping S65 AMG Cabriolet.
If a debut at IAA is indeed planned, expect deliveries to start by the end of the year or early 2016.
