The Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA has been introduced to the worldwide audience during the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and now has decided to star in a massive gallery and two new videos.

The Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile is a stylish and elegant four-door coupe prototype that boasts a very low drag coefficient of just 0.19 and also boasts an extendable body. Yep, that latter part is true, because the body can literally grow by up to 390 mm when the concept reaches 80 km/h (50 mph). This is done to optimize the aerodynamic forces even further in order to make the vehicle as fuel efficient as possible. The shape and exterior design cues could hint towards the future of the CLS series and we’re giving kudos to Mercedes-Benz for retaining the sleek lines even though their main objective was to deliver the best possible aerodynamic solution. The cabin has elements from the S Class flagship series and the high-tech treatment revolves around touch operation of functions – while the designers aimed towards a functional minimalistic design.

Of course, there’s an alternatively-powered architecture that combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor to garnish a total of 279 PS (205 kW). The plug-in hybrid can go for 66 km (41 miles) on electricity alone and when acting as a regular hybrid it will only spew 31 g/km of CO2 – which means the drivetrain could soon be ready to hit the production series inside let’s say the upcoming E Class executive sedan. The IAA itself will forever remain a study, albeit one designed to showcase the latest advancements in the field of aerodynamics and efficiency of the manufacturer.
