We are not members mainly because the nearest local chapter is about 120 miles away in St. Louis. However, the members of that chapter that I know are very nice and inclusive people.....not at all stuffy. They are about the members and their cars! I would join if we were a little closer.
The STAR magazine is also very cool in my opinion. I think it is a quarterly mag and comes with membership. We received a complimentary copy. Looks much better on the coffee table than Motor Trend or its twin brother C&D.
I have to renew my membership again. i let it run out way too long. Yes you do get a Discount as a member and i love The Star magazin. The magazin alone was worth the money to me. Great tips on everything around Mercedes including old and new cars. I went to some of the Mb events from the club and i met alot of very nice gearheads. The Mercedes Club of Wisconsin made the afford to reserve the track at Elkhardt Lake Wi for a wkend and we had a chance to run our Mb,s on the track. That was just plain awesome taking my 1970 250c around the track
I belong to the UK section. Yes you get good discounts and they also can get discounts with specialist classic insurance and recommendations on independent garages, etc.........Yes there is a fee around Sterling £35 per year - thats for a joint membership for myself and better half. In the UK we get a monthly mag - The Gazette and a "members only" internet forum where you can find all sorts of tips and they do organise some good events throughout the summer. If its like the UK arm, its really worth the £35 fee.
I believe the minimum age for my chapter is 85. Whatever it is, I will NEVER be old enough to be a member of this club.
The magazine has gone downhill and is now at rock bottom. It's essentially a vehicle for generating advertising from those who would restore 50s-70s iron and there's really nothing of interest regarding the current cars.
In addition there is almost ZERO technical talent shown by those that would give "advice" in the magazine.
