Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake facelift revealed in patent drawings – minor changes expected

The Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class is due for a facelift soon, as earlier spyshots of both the Coupe and Shooting Brake variants were caught undergoing road testing. Now, we have a good idea of just what the latter will look like thanks to these design patents that made their way onto the Net.

Similar to what we’ve seen in the spyshots, the changes to the CLA appear to be minor, based on the patent drawings. The familiar sleek roofline of the Shooting Brake remains unchanged with just minor changes to the car’s headlights (soon to be available with an LED option), as well as the rear taillights’ graphics.

The patent drawings also show us a CLA Shooting Brake sans the AMG Line styling pack. Our local Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 Shooting Brake bears the same styling kit that introduces a more aggressive front apron along with the brand’s trademark diamond radiator grille, with a single-bar running through the centralised three-pointed star.

On the revised W176 A-Class, that last bit comes as standard thanks to a new Style line that replaces the Urban pack. The refreshed hatchback also receives an updated seven-speed 7G-DCT dual-clutch transmission (already available for the CLA) and for the first time, Dynamic Select is available, with four selectable driving modes.

However, the mechanical revisions for the CLA Shooting Brake are expected to be minimal, with some engine upgrades and a retuned suspension setup. Autocar UK reports that the only other change involves the CLA’s new naming strategy.

On petrol models, there will only be a number to denote their variant, e.g. CLA 250. However, diesel versions will drop their ‘CDI’ badges in favour of something more simplistic, a ‘d’ after the name, e.g. CLA 250 d. This brings the sleek W176-based model up to speed in terms of nomenclature with the rest of the Mercedes range.
