Anyone up for this? I was thinking of going. It starts in Irvine and ends in Escondido with a pizza lunch and a visit to a winery/auto collection. Me and Drakon went with this group back in December and it was a lot of fun.

Seems like this meet is a tough sell on this forum. Oh well, here's the consolidated list of attendees so far (from benzworld and peachparts). So far just me from slkworld.

Photos from today's meet

The drive from the MB Classic Center to Escondido was an exercise for fuel efficiency and also patience, what I call an F-E (fuel efficiency) run :D

I would kindly ask the federal government to refund the gas guzzler tax for the SLK55 (roughly 30 mpg, Imperial or 9.4L/100 km).

*Please* tell me you managed to "correct" that problem before you got home?! :D
Corrected on the run from the pizza place to Deer Park Auto Museum :)

SLK is not the first hard-top convertible:

They already had a fix for the different rattles/noises from convertibles even before World War II:

Durk may have more photos of the 1966 and 1967 SL's that were in the group, in addition to several turbo-charged diesels, one that utilizes used vegetable oil (with an extra fuel-water separator) and a fuel heater (to 160 F ) before going to the fuel injectors. It smells like there's a restaurant near-by.

Thanks for the pictures - you might be interested in this one of a '29 Chrysler, I took outside the Tan Hill pub on my recent 'Mini Sheeps Hunt'. It was taking part in reliability trial from London to Edinburgh - about 450 miles.

It was a great meet, although the drive over there was scarily slow at times (like 20mph under the speed limit on the freeway ). The food was good and the car collection was quite stunning. So much beautifully maintained/restored history. Including the classic SLs we had that were brought by participants in the meet-up!

My MPGs after the slow-speed-chase portion of the drive. As Eddy mentioned, we redeemed ourselves on the post-lunch run to the car museum :D:

Paris/Bejing car that was parked at the Classic Center in Irvine.

The group at the Classic Center, listening to Bob explain the changes made to the engine of his car to allow it to consume veggie oil.

1966 230SL. Just a beautifully maintained car. This is in Escondido at the lunch hang-out.

The three 1960s SLs that were at the meet.

What to do when you can't figure out how to mount the ballasts of your new HID Kit. Roll it into a towel and jam it into the engine compartment.

Messerschmidt 3-wheeler.

An Indy car on display at the museum.

The Ford Fairlane with retractable hard-top that Eddy showed in the picture of the advertisement. The trunk lid on this car is huge because the hard-top is stored as a single piece without any hinged parts.
