I just bought my first MB and went for the SLK 350 2012 (love at first sight). I took delivery of the car 3 days ago. It had 31 000 km and it still had left a full year warranty from the original 4 year warranty. Also it is a certified MB that carries an extra 2 years warranty after the end of the first 4 years.

On the third day, I heard a very loud noise(scary) that came from under the front of the car when driving at 50 mph,I stopped the car to see if there was something underneath the car but there was no obstructing object. So I started slowly driving without noticing any noise, but as soon as I reached 50 mph, it started again. So the following morning I called the dealer and he suggested to have it towed.

The mechanic took the car for a run and again the same loud noise came up
He put it on the lift and found out the when they did the certified inspection, the
mechanic forgot to put the 2 front screws on the plastic cover that protects the engine. So as soon as the car was hitting 50 mph the wind was catching the cover and lifting it up and down. Wow was I happy that it was not a serious engine or transmission problem.

Mine was left a year under sun and cold, when I got it the engine was smelly for a month, then it was ok after, check your front brakes because mine was jammed, the holders of the brakes and suspension, I went for a garage outside mercedes factory, after doing the brakes and holders, the car became soft and faster.

Did you see the belly plate yourself, or did you rely on what the dealer told you?

Have a close look at the cover where it mounts to the rest of the body. These covers are only made from a mess of recycled paper and plastic waste, and whilst they are good for the job they are made for, they are not strong. My fear is that the extra load put onto the cover might have weakened and/or torn the other mounting points of the cover.
