Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum, and I hope to find the enthusiasm here like is on the Lotus forum.
I just bought a SLK 350 as my daily driver....while I love my Lotus Exige S, she is just not pratical to drive every day, while the Mercedes is. At least you can get in/out of the SLK in a normal manner, while you have to crawl into the Lotus. I look forward to driving both cars.

Congrats on the SLK. I did just what you have done. I was going to keep my Lotus and use the SLK as an about town car. I have a big cruiser for trips. Anyhow, the more I drove the SLK the more I disliked the Lotus. Lotus lost, got sold and I don't miss it one bit.

Lotus AND SLK ownership

Congrats on the SLK. I did just what you have done. I was going to keep my Lotus and use the SLK as an about town car. I have a big cruiser for trips. Anyhow, the more I drove the SLK the more I disliked the Lotus. Lotus lost, got sold and I don't miss it one bit.

Hi, I didn't trade in my Club Racer Exige S220 for the SLK-I purchased the SLK outright. When I want to go SUPER fast, get thrills, torture myself, have the world gawking at me, have girls young enough to be my daughter hitting on me, I drive the Lotus. When I want to relax, have soft seats and suspension, want to mostly blend in with other vehicles, not have people laying all over my parked car taking pictures, and drive around town like a "normal" person, I drive the SLK. I really enjoy BOTH cars. In fact, I enjoy the SLK much more than I expected to. For me, the SLK is my "BIG" cruiser. The SLK is growing on me, but I still think the world of the Lotus. Race car vs. GT...both have their place in my world.

I kind of insert hy head first, and then worm my way into the Lotus. However, my mechanic actually gets into the Lotus like a regular car..he inserts his right leg into the car, with his right foot planted firmly flat on the floor in front of the peddles. He then goes straight down, low enough to get his head in, and then the rest of his body just inserts itself into the Lotus. I tries to do it that way, and had to call the local EMT to extricate me with the "jaws of life". You don't lice with a Lotus expecting ANYTHING to be easy.....that's why I cheerfully bought the SLK just to have a vacation. The two cars are like salt and pepper-both have their own identity, and you love both.

I understood and glad you enjoy them both. I too owned both at the same time. For me, the Lotus became like the red headed step child that no one wanted to take along (drive).

Welcome from Blighty..... :)

The SLK is IMHO the best blend of roadster and hard-top GT that there is right now, although the new Z4 is probably up there. I parked next to one at work the other day, they look so much better than the previous one and the hard-top is a big plus.

The Exige is much more hardcore and very much in the spirit of Colin Chapman, minimalist, focused, lightweight, fast and agile.

I've never owned a Lotus, but I know that day-to-day the SLK is easier to live with and yet I can still have a lot of fun with it if I want to. The Lotus, would literally be a PITA on the roads I have to drive every day. I would need the services of a chiropractor after a week of going to work and back. That said, for the occasional blast or track-day, I'm sure the Exige would be a massive hoot...

Congrats, enjoy..

And just imagine if that z4 had been in a colour other than Gold. Actually i was surprised it seemed to look quite large against the SLK. Front end of the z4 a success but the rear Im not quite as convinced. Still not as shiny as yours !
