Hi,

I hope I'm not asking a question that's already been asked but I can't find anything in the searches. Anyway, I have a 1997 SLK 2.0 and have never really found the performance outstanding but recently the car has started to run a little lumpy from cold, occasionally won't start on the first turn of the key but will on subsequent key turns. I have had problems with it cutting out at junctions but restarting without a problem but the biggest problem is the lack of power. If I put my foot down quickly the car just looses all power, if I coax it up to speed it doesn't trouble it too much but it also dies on hills and I find myself having to move down through the gears to keep the revs up. I have noticed a lot of posts about the K40 module or relay which seem to have many of my symptoms, so I've checked that and it looks to be okay, even though the PCB looks to be different to other modules referred to in the posts. I also get an intermittent bulb warning light. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Andy.

Andy, Welcome from NE England.

Even if your K40 relay base PCB looks OK,it's still worth re-working the joints - apply a soldering iron, gently melt the existing solder, and add a little more. Dry solder joints can be notoriously difficult to spot.

It would also be worth checking your mass airflow sensor, as again, if these have become dirty or have failed, can lead to similar problems.

Thanks

Hi Woolly,

Thanks for the quick reply, it's much appreciated. I did redo a couple of the joints that looked a bit ropey but didn't particularly want to do the whole board but I may just do that now anyway. Also I have no idea how to check the other thing you mentioned although I'm sure I'll find another thread telling me exactly how to do that here somewhere, which I'm about to do. Just realised I've posted this in the wrong forum too, so reposted where it should be. Not going so well so far is it!?

Thanks again,

Andy.

Hi Andy,

I had this problem and replaced the fuel filter and pump after the relay mod did not cure it. Runs sweet as a nut now.
