Hi, new member now looking to purchase a SLK55 after test driving one for the first time this past Friday.
I made mistake of passing up purchasing the vehicle on the spot to think it over. It was sold within hours after my test drive. Definitely regret the decision but know that the right one will come up soon.
The forum has already provided me with a ton of insight about the quirks of this vehicle. Hope to spend a lot more time here in the near future.

Now is the the beginning of the best time of year to buy a convertible in Calif, keep in mind the 55 amg gets more power in newer model years. When I was looking I found a number of 55 amg around model year 2006, often with low miles and service needed 268 days ago. We thought the 55 was a hoot to drive, but ended up with a 2012 single owner 350, and a year later no regrets.
Drive a few and be sure of what you want. Find a good indy garage and have them inspect prior to purchase.

This 32 has been advertised on Craigslist and the guy keeps bumping it and has it on the Reno list, the SF bay list, the Sacramento list, but he keeps the price at $10,000, I have emailed him and talked on the phone. I have not looked at enough SLKs to decide on going with the AMG yet. I believe the car is in Yuba City a few hours away from me. Since you are in the Bay area, thought I would let you know.
Just took the keys to a 2005 today. Surprised that it can spin the wheels with less than full throttle off the line. Not sure if it's the tires, Michelin's, or simply has more torque than the previous 55 that I drove a few weeks ago. Would have loved to have run this against a few of my past cars to compare how quick this coupe really is. A number of items that will need sorting out but that's all part of the fun with an older car.
Thanks for all the great information on the forum. Already helped with several issues that I was looking at (trunk latch release, seat track fix, etc.....)
Hi from 'almost Central London'. Glad you found what you were looking for. Bought my 200 after a frantic search 2 weeks ago. Still smiling and ironing out all the little things that need doing, more importantly, still grinning!

Funny how much fun throttle controlled wheelspin is. Its one of the major drawbacks of getting new sticky tires, and that is no joke, they are technically faster, but without doubt less fun.
Thanks to all you wonderful slk enthusiasts and the information on this website I've dived right in to tweaking the new toy.
G-paddles!! Shifts are still slow but they look tons better than the buttons
jacking pucks - why couldn't mercedes do like gm/audi and have option of installing permanent jacking pucks to the frame
ghetto'd my old plastic ramps - darn car is lower than my old vette and couldn't get . don't think it has aftermarket springs installed
disconnected seat track cable - now my passenger seat moves forward and backward like it should
fixed a malfunctioning cupholder - the back was filled with sticky stuff so figure that's why my climate/radio controls work intermittently or in some cases not at all
missing bumper tow hook cover/windshield washer cover - rattle canned for now but will be painted properly when I get around to replacing front bumper
best part is my wife isn't complaining about the exhaust volume being too loud (unless I put my foot into it......) and hasn't demanded that I get rid of my Lexus SC430 so I am in hog heaven!!
