Let's play a game called " name that part "

OK, I have a USA version, left hand drive 2008 R171 pre-facelift that I have been installing a China S160 radio. I have been trying to fish the mic wiring through to the radio but I seem to have knocked off a part between the gauges and the radio. I slid a piece of wire with a rubbery insulation between the gauges and the steering column, from the center, toward the radio, and I could not see or feel it so I pulled the wire back and met some resistance -- but not too bad. When I felt around inside the dash from the radio side I could not feel the wire but I felt this part pivot on something and then it fell to the bottom. Now I need to figure out what is it, where it goes, how it works, and how to reinstall it.

I also have to use my fat hand to reach in behind an area with not much space so if someone has an idea for the best way to install this please let me know. I have the center stack and the panel below the steering wheel open.

So let's play Guess the Part .......

post your vin, get your free datacard
I have not been able to find any part that looks like that in epc

is there a part number anywhere on it?
in order to remove the instrument cluster, you use the long screw driver and push in the holes on 2 sides of the cluster..... that will "unlock" the instrument cluster (refer to instruction to remove instrument panel). That part is the part that you push in to unlock the cluster. Lay on your back, looking up and put it back in place using the other side as reference

this part is at the bottom, left and right coners (there are 2 of them) of instrument cluster. Look up and you will see it

It appears to have a pivot with a slot so it is keyed (photo) and one end has a kind of square basket and a kind of clip for a rod on the other end.

So what is it and what is it for?

I will look on the other side and see if I can figure something out.

If anyone has a pic or part list showing it it would be great.

The only numbers on the plastic part is " P00 93 938 " and " T00 17 902 ".

The spaces seem to be there but may just be my imagination.

your vin is missing a digit

need 17, i count 16

WDBW54F28F183408

find the missing digit n resubmit please :D
Sorry, I missed the "K" after the second "W".

Did the numbers on the part mean anything to you?

I looked up from the footwell at the one on the other side (closest to the drivers door) but cannot see what it is attached to. It seems the basket side is down and the curved part is up.
standby for datacard

i google those numbers with no luck

that would mean that part is 'part' of another part and not sold separately
Here ya go!!

I guess nobody knows what the part is and what it is connected to. Thanks goes to nguyenphananh for letting me know that there are two of them (whatever they are) an maybe I can figure it out from the second one.

Still if someone has a pic of the part installed where you can see everything and /or knows about the part please let me know.

Thanks
don't give up yet. after all, it is new year's weekend and you only posted this thread 15 hours ago :D
like I said, it is the mechanism to lock/push out the instrument cluster. When I removed the dash, it fell off a few times... just put it back in. It has no important function. But if you don't put it back in, you will not be able to remove/push out the instrument cluster when needed.

Is the upper piece connected to something, the end with the slot, or is it just to push? It does not look like the lower end is connected to anything? On the one still attached it looks like there is a turn "knob" on the post to keep it from falling off. Is this correct?
I took my dash off twice already, last time just last month.... I didn't pay much attention to detail on this piece.... best advice is just look on the other side... It is very simple, the function is to push out the cluster when need. You cant go wrong with it...
Got it I think...

I think I got it done with your help. The piece just fit on the post with the box side down. There is a hook that will latch onto a little tab that sticks off of the box section. The hook is what will hold the part from rattling.

That is how I left it....

Thanks for your help.
