Let there be light... or not

Hi All. Recently purchased 3 year old SLK250. Stunning motor with no issues.. except the interior light (and reading lights) do not work at all. Please forgive the question, but is the interior light an optional extra? I wouldn't have thought so, given the presence of all the switch gear. Fuses checked out ok. Don't think all bulbs would have failed at same time. Grateful for someone to enlighten me (no pun intended!).

Forgive me but I have to ask. you checked the owner's manual?
reason I ask, is at least on my R171 2009, on is off and off is on (at least to me) when using/setting the choices. also, if checking lights in open (daylight streaming in) garage, you won't see anything because the system does not put them on in daylight.
Hi. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've studied the manual and tried the interior lights in the dark, but they don't work at all. Rather strange. Anyway, the car is still under manufacturer's warranty, so I've booked it in with the local dealership to have a look! Regards Colin

Hi,
Have you tried the settings on the onboard computer. I think you can switch them off on the Menu. Under the Menu it has a section for interior lights I think .

My 2013 Owners' Manual

I have a 2013 (US Version). When I looked in the pdf of my Owners' Manual for the Interior Lighting, I found it under the section 'Lights and windshield wipers > Interior lighting > Interior lighting control' (page 112 in my manual). It shows how to Activate/Deactivate the Automatic control using one of the buttons in the 'Overhead control panel' (see page 34 for a graphic of which buttons are which in this panel) - this section is found in 'At a glance > Overhead control panel'. In my manual, button 5 is the one that controls the interior lighting on/off. The manual control to turn the lights on/off is button 2. Here's a pic from page 112 of my manual - hope this helps....

Thank you very much for this slk55_kt. Unfortunately I have tried this. I've read the manual many times and fiddled with the buttons! No lights work. It's quite frustrating how such a simple thing can wind you up :). Anyway, I have it booked into my local Merc dealership next week. Let's see if they can fix it. Best regards.
