Lake District Weekend Road Trip July 15th - 18th

Following a very enjoyable long weekend in North Wales last year I have decided that I'd like to do something simlilar this year but this time try the Lake District.

http://www.slkworld.com/united-kingdom-region/230833-snowdonia-road-trip-weekend.html

The basic plan would be to set off on a Friday returning on the Monday, touring round by day and a few light refreshments in the evenings . Probably look to stay centrally and plan routes out from there to fill the days. In Wales last year @dbgrn and I did Zipworld Velocity so might include something similar this time but I need to do my homework on that one!

Please reply to this thread or PM me if you think you might like to be involved in this event.

Have now chosen 15th - 18th July

Sounds a great idea to me. Last year's weekend in North Wales was fab, so count me in for this one too! :tu:

Sure no problem!

I think that it's unlikely to be the bank holiday weekend cos it will be too busy, but for now just gauging interest levels.

Date now fixed 15th - 18th July. Starting to look at accommodation now, suggestions welcome, private car parking and a good breakfast required!

I took a quick look at B&Bs in the area earlier, and I think we might struggle to get one B&B with enough free rooms to accommodate us... perhaps we might need to consider different B&Bs, but we could agree on a location so that we're within walking distance of each other.

Or, we could consider a couple of pine lodges, or similar, but the issue with that might be not enough car parking space.

What other suggestions, or comments, do others have?...

Me and Lucy want to come.
We went last year and will be going this year August Bank holiday. But happy to go twice, love the Lake District!
The Family stay here every year -

Welcome to Howtown Hotel | Ullswater

It's really nice. Good roads into the mountains and round the lake. It's Ullswater.
Last year they had some classic cars there who were touring the lake district. Not far from there, is also a classic/sports car rally.

Yes that looks interesting thanks for the link. Reading about it sounds like they've been trying to get planning permission for a larger zip wire there too.
Could try Airbnb, were you rent someones house or lodge and split costs between occupants?

Just looked on Airbnb. Suggests the Great Langdale Bunkhouse. £342 for 12 sharing. Mostly bunk beds I think.

Certainly very cheap.

I was considering the Travelodge near Kendal which I thought was cheap at £137 per room for the 3 night stay. Just unsure about the location and facilities.

Kendal is on the edge although it looks easy access into lakes , and easy to head in any direction ,

Need to add June as well :) to the list ( provisional )

Kendal would also give you the option of North Yorkshire ( tann inn ) as well although the scenery and roads are far better than the pub
