My SLK has just reached 3yrs old. Last week in very bright sunshine I noticed what appears to be blistering on the upper sides and doors.
I have now been to a body and paint specialist and he found that the whole car is covered in blistering and lifting of what appears to be the final clear coat or lacquer.

Any of you guys had the same and if so what did you do about it?

Hi, have followed your previous postings and wondered how close we are as neighbour's. Now I'm commiserating about your blister/lacquer problem.

This problem seems to affect the Fire Opal cars and covers the SLK and the C-Class and apparently has done so for many years. There's an exhaustive thread on MBClub uk - featuring the C-Class coupe and illustrated with pics of the blisters.

Local dealers (S Wales) will now admit to the problem - and a more distant dealership have an afflicted SLK on sale, which they had sold, then bought back, and are awaiting a full body-strip to bare metal and respray at Merc's expense.

You are welcome to chip-in to the thread I had started - which you’ve been directed to by bastivock (thank you) - and maybe get some mutual advice and support.

Good luck.

My slk has exactly the same problem - looks dreadful and MB head office don't want to know - despicable for a supposed 'luxury' brand

Go higher up the food chain.

MB list a respray as £8000!
Madness.

You can get a quality respray done for ~£4000.
You do have to search though.

The reason that we ask you to update vehicle/location details is to save repeating
the same information every time that you ask a question.
Also, this site is truly worldwide. That can matter when you ask for help and information.
Are you looking for a bonnet, or a hood, a boot, or a trunk? Makes a difference.
Driving on the left, or the right?

If your car has been serviced by Mercedes they should have checked the paint and ticked it off as ok. If they didn't report any problems they are clearly negligent in the service they offer.
Read the warranty details so you have some knowledge of what it covers, 30 years for perforation which it isn't but only 2 or 3 years for quality?
I have said it before, there are only a couple of Luxury car manufacturers and these mass produced cars are not included in that.
Good luck to you all, maybe get a group together and like Jeff says go higher up the chain.
Maybe even join the MB Club (nothing to do with MB) so that you can escalate and make more noise.
