Key Sticking in Start Position

When I turn the key to the start position the engine always starts but the key has stopped springing back. A gentle nudge and it will go back.

I tried putting white lithium grease on the key and turning it in the lock a bit. Also spraying around the outside "ring" of the lock. Didn't help.

Any other suggestions I can try? Thanks!

If I leave the key in the Start position does the starter motor keep running or is the car smart enough to turn it off when the engine starts?

It would make awful sounds if it was still trying to run the starter, so I'd say it isn't.


Have you got both keys? Is it the same for both?

Seems to have resolved itself. I guess the cause was lack of use...

Yes it is typical for MB. Had it before on older models.
