Hi, I have been looking at posts re keys and ppl say press the unlock button and lock button etc.On my key fob I only have 1 large button, is this normal? (I have a 1997 230 slk) Also the range is a bit limited ie I have to stand next to the car to use central locking.
I have changed the batteries and there is a red light that lights when I press the button.
Any thoughts ?

I believe the first keys were of just one button and worked by infra red not RF , check your manual for where you should be pointing ..

key

It does say in my manual, press the unlock button and lock button, but Ive only 1 big button, also says in the manual it uses radio signal ...I would hazard a guess and think my manuals may be for a latter model....

what year is your manual? earlier than 2000 model year are tough to come by.
but as Craige said, it probably uses ir and not rf so you should point it at the door handle within 3 feet or so
