Having search a couple of variations of this question in the forums resulted in no info, I thought I would ask the question to our members.

While at the Spring meetup in Plant City this past Saturday, one of our members (sorry, didn't remember his name) showed me a print out he obtained from his service provider that his key fob had a remaining number of "clicks" left before it would stop working. He said that the counter starts out at 14,000 cycles when new and counts down to zero at which time a new (or reprogramed?) fob would have to be used.
We both thought this was absolutely crazy but, there it was, on his print out from the DAS/Star system. So.....

Anybody who has DAS/Star have any further comment?

Well now... When I bought my car, one of the conditions was 2 keys. When I showed up to collect, the dealer could only produce one and so agreed to get a new one from MBUK. I was happy, as this meant I'd get a new style silver key. The new silver key, fully programmed arrived in about two weeks, and worked perfectly. Roll on a couple of years and the 'new' key stopped working, stranding me at a petrol pump with the roof down and in 'park'. (There's a thread on here somewhere). It would go into the ignition, but would not turn, which is why I couldn't move the car.
So having rescued the car by retrieving my second key, I called MBUK who helpfully offered to sell me a new key for around £250 - the failed key being just out of warranty. After some frantic Googling I found a specialist in north London who said they might be able to repair it. So I trek across the city the the lock specialist, but after much fiddling with computers an' stuff, they declared that the broken key had reached its 'max cycles' which they thought was 20,000 and therefore couldn't be repaired. They sold me a new key - silver, but slightly different (flatter, stiffer buttons) for about £140 if my memory serves me right.
So now I'm thinking that when MBUK supplied the first replacement silver key, they programmed it to a slot that had already many thousands of 'cycles' on it, so although it was new, it had a very limited life.
What do you think i860?
Do you think it's possible to get that key assigned to a different slot?

I need to hook up the sd to the car and check the "counter cycle" if any.
From what i read is not possible to assign a used slot to a new key only an empty one.

Went and hock up the machine to my w204 I can't see any cycles...
