Compared to all the other cars and trucks around it, it just looked like a spaceship. Just cut through the traffic like a knife.

Ferraris and Lambos look great too when they are in traffic, but the SLR is such a rare and welcome sighting..

I've seen many in Kuwait, St Tropez, Cannes and Monte Carlo. I was sitting at the local starbucks the other day, saw a Blue roadster SLR pass by.

Rarest car I've seen so far is the XJ220 Jaguar, Mclaren F1 and Ferrari F50.

All of the above were spotted once, whilst the F50 twice.

Ah the XJ220.......

I saw the XJ220 on the test track during development and sat in a road-going car at a charity race meeting I was involved with. I don't think I've seen one driving on the road though.

I once met Jim Randall at an IMechE evening at the Rolls Royce plant in Crewe. He said the original idea and concept for the car came out of a conversation he had with his daughter while sat in front of the fire one Christmas.

The original prototype (V12, 4WD) was designed and built by the Jaguar engineers in their own time. The glass was given to them for free by Pilkington as were the tyres (Pirelli IIRC). The whole thing started out as a hobby and they pioneered the use of laser-cut aluminium for the body shell. When it appeared at the AutoTech show in Birmingham it just floored everyone that saw it.

McLaren F1, I've seen one or two on the road, and did get to sit in one of the first cars just after they were launched. I was also told by a truckie friend of mine, that 6x F1 development cars were recently sent to to be destroyed in the crusher.

F50, I've not seen one on the road. The only one I've seen was at a private function where it had a few other red cars for company..... :)

Saw a silver SLR at dinner last weekend in North Scottsdale. Mostly like - given the neighborhood I was in - the owner drove it less than a couple miles to the restaurant. It was in pristine condition. The wife thinks it's funny that I immediately have a drool reaction whenever I see one. I still want to see a 722S up close. The dealer here usually has the newest and rarest on the floor, but I have not stopped in for over 6 weeks. Hmmm....maybe today.

I've seen 3 in London, and at least 4 or 5 in Dubai - they seem to be pretty popular down there.

'tis an amazing car on the road, looks like it's flying even if it's only doing 35!

SLKers from SoCal did a meet sometime back in 2008. Eddy, Tom and a few others were there. We stopped at Dana Point and on our drive through Newport there was a silver SLR going the opposite direction, beauty!

I think we talked about the SLR afterwords, anyone remember that?

I've only seen one. At the dealer in Rochester, NY. I was walking around the dealership and saw in the "delivery room" area. It was covered up with a car cover. A sales person came up to me and asked if they could help me. I said "Yeah, show me the car under the cover." He walked away for a bit and then came back and said "It's sold so I can show it to you."

A little later I saw the person I bought my SLK from and I mentioned the SLR. She immediately took me in the back, pulled back the cover and let me have a look (at the car... at the car). The car really looked awesome (and I rarely use the that word). Actually, the girl was kind of a looker too. She was leaving that dealership and didn't really care that she wasn't supposed to do that.

Anyway, that is the only one I've seen in person.

As far as dealers goes: Fletcher Jones in Newport beach had 2 SLRS and a SL 65 Black Series last time I went. Also had a couple other exotics (non MBs) and tons of AMGS. The one I mentioned above is the only one I've seen on the road though.

I still haven't seen one in person. I really want to. At the dealership that I got my SLK from there were tons of exotics including a killer Porsche GT.

I might have to go down to Newport Beach. :)

There's at least 2 SLR's in the south Orange County area, silver and black, that I've seen on the 405 freeway.
