Greetings all.
I just registered here and just acquired a 2001 SLK 320 sport. The car has 175,000 miles. Car needs a little TLC but is fundamentally sound. Car had sat for a couple years so after picking it up, I immediately on way home put new tires and completely new front brakes on it with oil change of course. Cabin air filter was atrocious. I plan to do preventative maintenance on every system over the next while and replace shocks next week.

The transmission is silky smooth. I’ve read that the transmission is a sealed system originally meant to be a lifetime fill, but so is my Camry and the dealer says to change it at some point. What do experienced people here recommend?

Looking forward to being part of the community here and getting the car in tip top shape

Hi Warren and welcome to the forum from another 320 owner.

I would reckon on servicing the auto box. The guidelines here are for a fluid change / service every 40-60k miles. As your car has done 175k I'd get that done sooner rather than later.

After you've looked round, you'll find your way to the R170 section and there are a few discussions there on servicing the auto box.
