(Updated 7/13 to add Waypoint C for North-OC.)

Updated post. OK, so Pablo has graciously decided to risk a run with his older higher insurance deductible because more folks can make it on the 17th. So here is the plan:

Saturday July 17th, 11AM take-off.

Waypoint A (final) @ 11:00AM : Starbucks, 100W Foothill Blvd, Azusa
Waypoint B (OC/SD) @ 9:45AM : Peets Coffee, 23700 El Toro Road, Lake Forest
Waypoint C (N-OC) @ 10:20AM : Kragen Autoparts, 2920 Yorba Linda Blvd, Fullterton, CA

Note, the waypoint naming is a bit weird. "B" is furthest away from the final meeting place. The people from "B" will meet people at "C" a half hour later, then proceed on to the final waypoint "A" in Azusa.

Bleen (Pablo) will be the pathfinder and the route will take us along Glendora Ridge Rd and Mt.Baldy with whatever further permutations he can come up with on the day of the run, time permitting etc etc. Should be a total blast, this road is very fast with great visibility (see videos posted further into the thread).

Roll call added to the end of the thread. Add your name if you're interested in coming.

ORIGINAL THREAD TEXT FOLLOWS:

After June's Palomar run, several people expressed interest in doing more interim runs on top of the originally proposed schedule (2nd Sat of every 2nd month). It is likely that the next two dates by that formula are taken up by the August SoCal/NorCal/NW meet-up and the October Vegas retreat respectively, so it might anyways be a good idea to sprinkle some local meet-ups in that schedule.

With that said, anyone interested in doing a run on Saturday, July 17th? This would probably be an L.A. area run, Malibu perhaps? I would be up for a dash down the usual places (Latigo, Tuna) or anything else that the locals can come up with. Another alternative would be Temecula.

Please reply to the thread if interested, and once we get some people and a rough route proposal, I will update this post.

I'm up for a July 17th drive (or any weekend in July). I'll never say no to driving through Malibu, but I would also be up for Temecula as I have only driven through the winery areas, and I hear there are some good roads to the east and to west from there.

Also, I think Bleen and maybe Tslick posted (sorry for my bad memory if I recall the wrong people) in the past on a drive that has a loop road that pretty much goes nowhere (and hence isn't traveled much) in the middle of the San Gabriel Mountains. Not sure what the main road conditions are around there currently, but the loop road, or the Mount Wilson observatory would also be a fun and scenic drive.

I have a friend visiting from outside the country from the 15th-20th. Not sure what we will do but if a meet is planned during this time I can see if hes interested in going with me.

I'd say at the moment probably 20% I can make it.

Found the post from Pablo (Bleen) on the hidden loop road:

http://www.slkworld.com/u-s-california/15019-most-awesomest-hidden-road-socal-ive-found-yet.html#post163421

I would like to try this road, and probably the whole trip Pablo described. I saw Tslick's post on the AMG private lounge that the Glendora Ridge Road is a great drive (it's included in Pablo's trip).

Open to any drive and on most weekends, and not wedded to July 17th if that isn't working for the other Socal meet and drive regulars.

That looks very good. I'd definitely come up from SD for this!!:tu: I think Pablo might still be away on vacation, but when he gets back maybe we can get some more information, and more detailed map of the proposed route, so we can set up some waypoints for people to meet. Also, if we go with this plan, he'd get to drive in the front so no one would be punching holes in his windshield by shooting rocks at him. :biglaugh:

As far as the dates, I prefer the weekends of the 17th or 24th because I'll have family members in town, one of which is really looking forward to joining us on a drive. I could definitely do the 18th, 24th or 25th. Earlier wouldn't work out that well. I picked the 17th because it was the date tossed around over beers after the June 13th drive.

Hi there! Writing from Argentina. Now I can do stuff like ñáéíóú!

Anyways, I just put together a map of the drive I did that time:
http://tinyurl.com/2abbhk5

Did part of it again with a friend a while ago and found some more people on that "road to nowhere", which is basically an entrance to a firing range. So it depends on luck, I guess.

The run might be a little short for people to come all the way from the SD area, so maybe it would be better to do the whole Tujunga Canyon-Angels crest highway route? We could stop at newcombs for lunch or coffee...
Maybe we could fit both, or at least a condensed version of the Glendora mountain road run with the Tujunga Canyon one... we could leave out Glendora Ridge Road and San antonio Canyon Road if needed.

As for the date, I'm gonna be back in LA on the 11th, so I can do any weekend after that, BUT given last time, I'd rather take my car for an insurance inspection on the 17th (now that it's fixed, I want to lower my deductive in case of future accidents). So I'm game on the 18th or the next weekend.

I'm cool with either route. From your Google map, it says the short route is already 1h42m. Not sure what kind of average speed that assumes, but that's already a decent amount of driving. I can do something a bit longer as well though, so if you have some alternative google-mappable routes in mind, let's hear them.

I'm good with the 18th or the next weekend as well, although I'd probably prefer the 18th (if not the 17th). Let's give it a few more days for some of the usual suspects to chime in and then firm it up a bit more.

Hope you're having a good time in Argentina, Pablo. World-cup fever I'm sure!!

Speaking of Glendora Ridge, Here's the first 10 minutes of a 20 minute chase.
Wow, what a gorgeous road and nice visibility in the turns!! I'd be up for that :tu: How's the car these days, Tom, any more smoke? Are you up for a run in July and if so what dates would work?

Yeap, super world-cup fever here... Let's see what happens on Saturday...

Anyways, here's another idea for the run:http://tinyurl.com/25jvdw6
It's quite a bit longer, includes a visit to Devil's punchbowl.
This is without adding the Glendora part, we can mix and match, but looking at it, it might be a bit much. Unfortunately the 39 section that goes to the Angel's crest has been closed for YEARS, so we can't combine them that way. Feel free to play with the maps and mix and match.
Note that the first 14 miles of the Angel's crest are closed (from La Cañada).

If you think the Glendora run would be enough, I guess it's ok. It's a nice amount of driving for an afternoon.

If we are voting on which route to use, I prefer the other route that includes Glendora Ridge road and the loop road to the firing range. I don't mind this route, but our group typically stops a few times to chat and take pics (and look at smoking brakes lol) and I am pretty sure our drives take longer than the google map driving times indicate. This latest route would make for a long day, and might mean keeping a careful eye on the gas gauge. I think I only get about 10 to 11 miles per gallon when we are driving hard in the twisties (2nd and 3rd gear for me) and I think there is a huge elevation gain in this drive too. I'm not sure if there will be gas along this 130 plus mile route.

Is there a set date for the run? Any one interested in sponsoring a website development or at least a meetup group dedicated to SLK owners in Orange County, CA?

Welcome pinkus. So far the 18th of July seems like the most likely candidate for this run. Still waiting for more people to chime in with their preference. As far as a website. I think Cyberdrakon set up a skeleton page for the Southern California group a while back, but meet-ups have historically been organized in the California subforum on this website.

I don't really know how beneficial it would be to have a separate website for SoCal SLK stuff. I guess the one benefit would be there would be so little information/posts that I wouldn't miss any potential meets, but that hasn't been a problem through slkworld anyways.

Thanks for the welcome! I was just thinking that maybe if there was an SLK group at meetup.com, it would be easier to organize meetups/runs.

Anyway, I'll just check this forum.
