Last car show of the season, put on by the C Town Cruisers. Appropriately named, "It's all about the Trophies" I finally got my 10th and final Trophy of the season. Since it was all about the Trophies, I took mine and displayed this season's trophies, no one else thought of that, but said they wished they did! I'll probably keep one or two and donate the rest to charity to be re-purposed. It was a cool but beautiful fall day, couldn't ask for a better early November day! My goal was 5 for the season, especially with all the competition, I ended the season with 10, so there's not much room for complaining. Except, next year I want BIG ONES! LOL

Congratulations, but I concur with the above that you were pushing the limit there, would have hated to see that cave in or bend a key component. Makes for a great picture though, and I do wish you luck in the next season :)

Thanks all, it did suck up a few Saturdays and Sundays, but it was worth it. If I show next year, I'll probably change my show strategy, I want the big ones. :)

Thanks Davie! Yeah, I'm going to get pickier about the shows, too often I'm completing against 70 Chevelles, Camaros, and Mustangs and the like, along with the assorted billion Corvettes! I wasn't to see more import categories otherwise I'll just take back to weekend drives.

Congratulations Bob on a successful season! Even here in dense populated metropolis areas with demographics that have the ability to purchase cars that make the SLK look like a "Pauper-mobile", the MAJORITY of week-end car shows are still either Classic/Antique, Muscle and Hot Rod. Really, very few import and/or exotic shows with competition. Having said that, there are plenty of just plain old "meets" that have no competition but lots of import owner attendance. I would probably considered them more of a "rally" than anything else.

At these events you simply park your car to display for all to enjoy, and mix with other attendees and spectators and talk about cars! Preparation is about the same cause you want your ride to stand out and look terrific. And the meets are fun because you interact with nice people that really do have the same interests that you do. At these shows you learn about the best performance shops, repair shops, detailers, wheel specialists and what not. Occasionally you will get attendance from classic clubs like Alpha, Mini, BMW, MG, Triumph, Ferrari and the likes. Saturday morning "Cars and Coffee" would be a good example of what I am talking about.

I prefer these much more than the small town car shows filled with Hot Rods, Corvettes, Muscle Cars and the 50's models. For me, those are just so "everyday" even though the cars themselves are likely pristine. You've seen one that you've seen a million times because here in America that's what we grew up with.

Your showcase of trophies makes it obvious that people in your area appreciate this class of Mercedes Benz but probably don't have the opportunity to see many examples of it much less to compare the SLK to other competing brands. So, you have a lot to be proud of.........you know the old saying....."It's fun to be the King"!

Yeah, not much in the way of the high end shows around here, but the shows here do get pretty good attendance, just not by many imports or exotics. Most show's I'm in a class by myself, although I get lumped in with the "rest". I think I've been in shows with 2 other Mercedes all season. But the one good thing is that it does give you that special feeling, just like the Antique cars in the shows, there aren't many of my kind or quality. But I don't shy way from the competition, they just have other things to do with their time! I get a lot of questions at the shows from people that come up to the car, I always ask them if they've seen an SLK before, 95% or better generally respond, No. It gives me a great chance to talk up the Dawg! I love being around the car shows, I just enjoy the cars and the people!
