I hate paying full price or retail for anything. But when it comes to these cars, going cheap is not necessarily the right road to take. However this doesn't mean you can't be smart about it.

Thanks to the lovely people in this forum, I have learned to be persistent about who to call for service, what to ask for, what to look for, and how to contact them. I was in the electronic age habit of just emailing a request for service, expecting people to actually get back to me. Didn't happen. This morning I received service quotes from 5 different places. Three of them were MB dealers, and two of them were local independent high end repair facilities [I also checked their BBB ratings along with google and yahoo customer ratings as well so I knew they were reputable].

Price shopping the "indy" [independent repair shop] saved me 43% compared to the dealerships. And with the amount of repairs I have still to make [beyond the schedule B 100k maintenance that I've already paid for] are substantial, they aren't cheap. YOU already know this though!

Bottom line total saved today thanks to price shopping the indys: $626US. [thank you DF <3]

Yep, if you car is out of warranty, there shouldn't be a reason to take your car to the dealer unless they send you coupons. There are plenty of good Indy's around that can do the job right.

One reason is to use a dealer out of warranty is you spend over 100 dollars in 18 months you get some roadside assistance free in the US. Other wise look for a good indy.

I just spent $1k on the B service and the dealer said NOTHING about roadside assistance to me. A followup call is in order I believe. TY! :tu:

Omg

I LOVE YOU PEOPLE!!!! /faints

"Is out of warranty, and is regularly serviced at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership (a single transaction of at least $100 in the 18 months prior to the Roadside call)"

:hail:

On a side note, the original indy just called me back and shaved another $300 off the estimate this morning to beat the dealer in various individual repairs. All total saved now is close to $950. SUCCESS!

Good girl, you did your homework...not many of us (girls) would have shopped around.

What are you going to do with the money you saved...mall run?

Considering I just bought an LV, I think I'll use the extra cash to put back into the girl. Warm weather is coming...and I need to properly break this girl in with a mini weekend road trip! I'm sure there will be a spa treatment in it for both of us :D
