Is there a power gains guide for 200k dummies? I mean, i feel like a know more than the average Joe on cars in general, but when it comes to my little slk 200k, I feel I have limited knowledge on making my current car go faster. I don't really fancy getting a 350, or a 55AMG at the age of 20, because my insurance would be a joke. That and I've already put alot of time and money into my car. So besides the mods I have already done, what can i do?

-Custom 2.5" Exhaust including Manifold, sports cat, secondary cat delete and exhaust bypass valve
-Mtec Brakes, EBC pads, Goodridge braided brake lines
-New stock air filter
-(did have) 18"AMG series III wheels staggered with R888 tyres - stolen, now need replacements
-IBF reduced Pulley - not installed yet, but heard good things
-Searching for a reliable remap

What do people know of the following mods?
-Väth intercooler
-Porting the supercharger
-Bigger Fuel injectors
-SLK350 calliper upgrade
-Silicone hoses
-Porting the heads

Any other suggestions?

For your IBF pulley, did you need a stronger bolt to hold it in place? Was it a difficult mod to install?

Mine don't have any bolt !!! It's just press-fitted. No locking screw.

The most difficult part of the JOB is to install the new pulley !!!
It's not very difficult if you have access to the right tools.
But, I don't advise you to try do it at home !!!

Here is how I have done it: http://www.slkworld.com/performance-mods-r171/159465-here.html

The short answer is no!
The only way to increase power, if you must have it, is to get a 55. OK, you can play around with the s/c pulley but unliklely you will notice any difference in the long run.
If you want blinding power from a 1.8, it is possible - nip down to Milton Keynes and buy a 2014F1TC plant!
Why do you want to increase the power? the car performs more than adequately to the road conditions such as you have.
You say a 350 will kill your insurance premium. Yes. Another good reason to stick with what you have - especially as I bet not many in your area have an SLK at 20...
Be careful what you do. Insurance companies do not take hostages. Many of the mods you have made require you to tell the insurer. If you have a scrape and an assessor is sent out, you may well get nothing if you have fully comp. insurance and be in all sorts of legal trouble if they have to pay out on 3rd party - bear in mind assessors are on commission to save the insurer money, so he is no friend of yours..!
You have loads of time ahead of you, I would build up a few years of confidence with an insurer, hold down the testosterone, and move into power gradually. I know how you feel though. I was the same!

See I get where you're coming from, however i've declared all my mods so far and its altered my insurance for a grand total of £52, which is a hell of a lot less than the insurance on a faster 350 or 55.

Im not after a new car, just ways to make my 200K go faster. I'm not even talking anything close to even 250bhp, but certainly more than 163.9. I like my slk for its comfort, just want a little more power. It seems we have similar cars though, as I too have an MG B GT. With a 4.6 Range rover engine dropped in to it, and everything changed to accommodate from there.

If your 200 has an auto gearbox, forget the search for modest power gains, you'll never notice them.

As stated, the mods you've already carried out are already notifiable to your insurer. Even changing the wheels is notifiable.

It's also worth noting, that whenever we have been out and about with other sheep chasing SLKs, the 200s whether 167 PS or 183 PS versions have done a good job of keeping up with the more powerful SLK versions including the 55 AMG. Yes in straight line acceleration the 200 loses out, but when it comes down to 'making progress' a well driven 200 is no slouch.

BTW upgrading to 350 brakes and sport pack suspension would probably add more to practical driving performance than anything you can do to the engine.
