Hello to all,
In my opinion, it never gets old rolling up to a traffic light with the top down driving my 2005 silver SLK 350. It always gets the look and since I made a few custom modifications, the "rush" is always great.

However, to be honest, I have been looking for a forum like this for some time to get information and or answers I always seem to have about the car. My current major issue is a perfect example. Once I got the SLK unwrapped, as I do every year for winter, I discovered I needed a new battery. Returning from the Auto Zone I installed the battery and thought I would be out driving in a few minutes. Needless to say, the car didn't start and I had to jump it to get it running.

But now, once I turn the car off, it acts like the battery is dead again. I called my mechanic who I like very much. He said " yeah man, I need to see it and take care of that for you". Now I have no problem paying my guy for real issues, but I believe this is an easy fix. There must be a restart process that one needs to perform.

In any event, if anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate it. I look forward to reading about the user community. Thank you
.

Even if the battery wasn't old - it certainly wasn't fully charged. At 5 amps, it would need at least 10-12 hours. Batteries lose charge naturally as they stand, over a period of weeks, even when new. When fitting a new battery, check the state of charge before you connect it.

As Jeff said, once fully charged, there's no special procedure.

With your key at position one, tap the lowest of the three buttons the left side of the instruments three times quickly in succession to display voltage - and then carry on to start as normal. Standing, you should see a minimum of 12.5v displayed, dropping maybe to 10v as you crank and rising to around 14v once started until the car's alternator puts the battery back to full charge. If after a start it doesn't show around 14v - your alternator is faulty.

I suspect the earlier replies have got to the heart of your issue.
Either, new but been on the shelf for some time, or, perhaps not the right battery.

The SLK/C need a great battery, good is not sufficient.
Even a perfect battery can discharge on just 3 weeks standing.

Many of those who store either disconnect, or use a battery tender.
