Introducing Myself

Hi all, I just purchased my 1999 Blue SLK 230 very recently. Its my first SLK, infact my first Merc. I have always driven Classic cars and restore them myself as a hobby.

This car is my 'runabout' while I finish my Fiat X1/9. I have previously owned and restored: Lotus Esprit Turbo, Elan DHC, Elan+2, Mazda MX/5s, Fiat X1/9s, VW Beetles, Mini, Peugeot 205 Gti, Toyota MR2 etc. I'm used to quick well handling 2 seaters but the Merc is my first auto.

I'm enjoying the car and have just spent last month getting it into shape with a full service with new belts, plugs and filters. A bit of paint work to tidy some paint cracks on the front bumper and painting in the arches to prevent the spread of wheel arch rust. I have recoloured the seats and also painted the centre console and dash where it has rubbed off.

My next job is to sort out the central locking. At first nothing worked, including the interior lights and heated rear window. I soldered the PSE circuit board and now most things work but only locks but not unlocks on the fob. I am working on integrating a £30 after market CL system into The PSE due to the high cost of replacements. I'll let you know how I go and include pics if It works out well.
