Intermittent wiper settings

1981 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  mchild
Having looked at the user manual, and also in my car, I cannot see a way to adjust the speed of the intermittent setting on the wipers... is this really the case?! Seems very bizarre if so - I thought all cars had that option!

Nice quick question for you all I guess.

Thanks

If you have it as an option, the first setting turns it on and it is rain sensing. on when it senses drizzle or rain or down pour and adjusts its own speed.
Check your datacard if you have that option.

I don't see it. Then if i remember correctly, it should be like a 3 position switch for speeds. Those that have non rain sensing will jump in
Have a rainsensing wipers on my current, but the first one I've owned didn't have that option. And yes, strange at it may seem it has only 1 fixed interval. Rainsensor is an easy retrofit if I remember it correctly. Install sensor and have it coded with STAR.
Pre-facelift R171 only has 3 settings on front windshield/windscreen wiper speed control:

1. Rain sensing mode (wiper will wipe once initially, then wipe as needed based on rain sensor sensitivity/activity). Speed of wiper activity changes also with vehicle speed.
2. low speed intermittent wipe (fixed interval)
3. high speed wiping

I don't recall MB giving a function on the wiper speed control that allows the operator to set the intermittent wiper speed (not like other vehicle manufacturers).
Thanks for all your answers... this one is most intriguing....

Did a VERY quick search on this, lots of people are suggesting new windscreen and more :|

Don't know, considered a retrofit at that time but eventually traded it in for one that already had the rainsensor. I only know I read in the German SLK forum that lots of people retrofitted it and it was just installing the sensor and activating it with STAR. In the same forum is also mentioned that early pre-FL models were deliver with the sensor already installed. In that case it was just a matter of activating it. Noone mentions installing a new windscreen. But hey, my knowledge of this thing is very limited, just repeating what I read. Maybe someone that actually retrofitted it can chime in. Don't know hoe your German is but here's the link to the thread MBSLK.de - The SLK-Community - Die MBSLK.de-Foren - Regensensor freischalten lassen

There are members here that have upgraded to the rain sensor (probably should start with seanhump) and yes, all that is needed is the sensor and a session with DAS to activate it. As to all pre-FL models having the sensor, I don't think that is accurate as I have an `05 and looking at the sensor location through the windshield only reveals the light sensor and not another that would be the rain sensor. Wish that were true as I have the DAS equipment and would like to have the benefit of rain sensing wipers.
Maybe I did not express myself correct. I didn't mean all pre-fl but early in the sense of the first pre-fl models, probably only the 2004.And then maybe not even all of then .

Oh, I now understand. Yes, that may have been the case. As a reference point, my car was manufactured November 2004.
