It's this time of the year again.. Time to renew the insurance for another year. It seems they're actively trying to hurt you for staying loyal!!?

But looking at compare the market, and including the fact that I've modified the suspension (that my current insurer, eSure, knows about), I get quotes between £1,600 and £3,000 (per year)!!! JIKES! Removing the mod, it drops down to £380/yr for the cheapest (Happy.com).. Aviva is in there at number two with £405/yr.

Anyone know which companies that is good, cheap AND isn't to overly concerned about mods?

I use Adrian Flux for My winter V6 Coupe, which also covers various mod's.

They also do an agreed value add on, which is useful for more elderly cars that only need one bit of minor damage to write them off...

My only comment is the call centre staff need some happy pill's, as they are so miserable while quoting to insure our pride and joys...

Staying loyal is a mugs game and they love it - an alternative to printing their own money.
Unless you are hesitant about bartering then look around.
I personally found that the companies that want new business ( 1st Direct) are decidedly the most attractively priced when it cam to my 2008 R171 SLK 280 Auto & my 05 C220 CDI Avantgard (170bhp) Auto estate - I am insured with them on two cars and cannot grumble about, the rates that they are asking of me !

I was with Adrian Flux at first. With "agreed value" they need pictures up loaded. Am now with Footman James (agreed value). Premium went from over £600 to £450. You need to be a car club member to get insurance with them. I joined the MB owners club which is about £45. That was a few years ago and I haven't looked back. There are about a dozen or so specialist companies to choose from. Peter Best Insurance Services, Adrian flux, Classicline, and Lancaster Insurance Services all advertise in the MB club magazine.

I rang Lancaster 2 times( year apart) 200£ + over the Churchill price. And I think I will skip them next time.

Insurance also depends on your Post Code location, mileage, garages or not etc.
Try to think about how many miles you will actually cover, don't put 10,000 down if your only going to do 4,000.
If you only use it for pleasure, just insure it for that also.
Being honest works both ways, never lie.

I tried some different options on CompareTheMarket, and the mileage didn't affect it at all. I also tried a few of my previous post codes, just to see what/if that would do anything.. Neither did.

The only thing that made a severe change was the fact that the car is modified :(.

I've had a few quotes from the companies mentioned here and they where all more than what I currently have :(. A LOT (!) more :( :(.

As soon as I've gathered enough courage (I hate phones with a passion! :) ), I'll call them and see if they (eSure) can do anything. Maybe if I also insure my other car with them..

I've had company cars for the past 20 years and although I haven't made any claims no insurer would take that into consideration when I bought and insured my 320 two years ago, so when I bought my 911 last autumn I only had one full years no claim bonus, although I did get a small reduction for being over 50. I insured through Adrian Flux on a limited mileage policy for 6,000 miles in the year. The policy cost £1,200.00. I've used up the 6,000 miles because like most of us when we have new cars I found every excuse to drive it as often as possible! I phoned and asked how much to extend to 10,000 which was an extra £120.00, I then thought maybe that's not going to be enough I'll extend to 12,000, the premium uplift they then quoted was another £760.00. The explanation being that 10k still counts as restricted mileage but 12k falls into general use with no restrictions. I stuck with 10,000! Just have to leave it in the garage a bit more!

So, at least when insuring through them, there is a substantial saving to be had by limiting your mileage if you can.
